  • Online tafsirs?
     OP - April 16, 2010, 09:38 AM

There is something I want to look up in one of the tafsirs.

I searched wikipedia and in the 'Online Library' on this forum and they pointed to the same site, altafsir.com, but it is unavailable.
Is there any other site where I can find online tafsirs? I know you can read Tafsir al-Jalalayn on quran.com

I'm looking for Tafsir al-Tabari right now.

Bukhari 62:142 - Narrated Anas bin Malik:
The Prophet used to pass by (have sexual relation with) all his wives in one night, and at that time he had nine wives.

If you can read Arabic, then there are the tafseers of Tabari, Jalalayn, Ibn Kathir and Qurtubi here:

Thanks for the link, but unfortunately, I can't read Arabic.
All I see are lines and dots.  Roll Eyes

    Here: http://www.islamicstudies.info/?topic=quran

You can find some mainstream tafsirs of the Qur'an; Maududi's Tafhim al-Qur'an, Shafi's Ma'ariful Qur'an, Tafsir Ibn Kathir, etc. They're under 'Quran Translation and Commentary'

As for Tafsir at-Tabari; there's no online English translation of it, just the Arabic one on that quran.al-islam site.  Although, you should be able to buy an abridged English translation of it from an online Islamic bookstore.

Thanks, just what I was looking for! Yummy

Oh, and here's another tafsir by another well-known Islamic revivalist, Sayid Qutb.

    http://www.kalamullah.com/shade-of-the-quran.html

And on this website there's a rather large library, with links to hadith collections like Malik, Muslim, Abu Dawud, etc., as well as writings by influential Islamic thinkers, like Maududi, Qutb, Hasan al-Banna, Yusuf al-Qaradawi, etc., which you might find interesting:

Just ignore the stuff written by that dumb-ass Harun Yayha.  Afro
