Have you been ruminating over the dissolution of Rumi's decanter? Fret not sugarplum, one need only deposit a token of an enduring unity of opposites in my inbox to be saddled with an answer.

Thanks a lot everyone for the advice.

I don't think my problem is social anxiety or religious upbringing. I have a difficult time maintaining conversations, especially with women as well as difficulty in making eye contact. I'm also not the best at small talk, and my interests are generally for specific groups of people.

I don't want to be socially impaired when it comes to half the world's population, for many reasons including professional and for relationships. Also, I don't want things to get too serious. I have no interest in marriage or children, it's too much of an emotional investment.

If you feel the way you do then you could stick with girls who have lots in common with you such as your science studies, conversation will begin to flow naturally, its best just to be yourself and if people dont like you for what you are who cares, besides you are off to uni soon with like minded folks, you'll do fine  : )

Feel liberated that you can do good things for the sake of the good thing itself not so you can please a religion.

Follow your own spiritual/Atheistic path without guilt.

    Alcohol!!!

Sleep with a person you like without feeling it is sinful.

Able to be friends with non-Muslims without worrying about nonsense like hell.

Since leaving Islam I've started reading more but I was already reading lots whilst I was a muslim. I've also had to adopt an internal locus of control which is beneficial.

My mind runs, I can never catch it even if I get a head start.

I've decided to put myself in situations where I'm "wrong" more often, I now (used to hate it) like having to reformulate my opinions after a discussion.

First thing i did after leaving Islam: sex. Without guilt.

    and becoming vegetarian

talk about religion, even if its a bad word, i don't care (as long as i am not in danger Smiley )

    having boyfriends

having male friends (now i only have male friends somehow :/ )

Religions seem to cause more grief than good.

Yeah but most men aren't gay and having only male friends would be the same as living as a muslim if they were strict about it.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

Stop worrying about superstitions and enjoy your life.

Kermit's one and only commandment: You can go out there and do whatever the fuck you wanna do as long as you don't harm others.  grin12

And fuck who you wanna fuck without the fear of a celestial prude watching over you Smiley As long as it's between two or more consenting adults, of course.

Life without passion isn't much of a life. Islam and Christianity and Judaism and most other religions turn sexual attraction into a dirty thing when it's perfectly normal. Well, fuck that.
