First of all, hello and and welcome to the forum! Smiley
Second of all, I suggest you don't any family member about this. I for one, am already starting to regret ever telling my parents.

    I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star

I'm 15 and in the US

Its a bit early yet, but start mentioning that you have doubts here & there so it does not come as a huge shock when you eventually do..
I for one, am already starting to regret ever telling my parents.

Do you regret it now? How old are you?

I'm almost 20. And yeah, life was much simpler when my parents didn't know. I wanted to tell them because I don't feel comfortable being somebody I'm not. But sometimes I think they would know sooner or later. In the end, what happened happened. I'll just have live with it now.

Keep it to yourself until you are not financially dependent upon them. The reality is that you're still a kid and you still need them for support. I think that once you have moved out, have your independence and can look after yourself then you can look into telling them. I think it's important to tell them, but not required as of yet.

Nour: Practicing doctors, heart surgeons and engineers may sit there telling you how the ginn stole their wifes jewels

    Bobonaut: Hellos and welcome dude...

IMHO, you should never tell them at all. Why make them live with the pain of having an atheist son, they won't get it anyways.. i personally never told my parents, just not to break my moms heart..

you know if you where a christian who decided to be muslim or vice versa, you will have some trouble as you have rituals to attend to and stuff, but you are not..

Just live your life and enjoy it and find ways of keeping everything for yourself..

Haha! Unechance posted that very quote in my bio thread, I think.

He's no friend to the friendless
And he's the mother of grief
    There's only sorrow for tomorrow
    Surely life is too brief

Welcome to the forum. Yeah im with the guys who say dont come out fully just yet, if only becuase they could make your life pretty miserable. Wiat till you have some autonomy then reveal your true feelings, you may dissapoint them but better that than lying forever.

According to the polls only 1.6 % of Americans are athiests. So what gives you the right to call the other 80% morons?'

    I'm leaning towards these:

@ Bobonaut, hey mate welcome to the forum, i do agree with most of the advice you have been given already. Just have some little patience for a while until you are much older. I am alot older than you but i am still in the closet. i stiil have to pray 5 times in a day in the mosque and have to listen to bullshit islamic drivel from some of my over-religious relatives...but i just find peace in the fact that i have seen the light and no longer believe and my mind has been enlightened. So even though i have to be in the closet i am glad i am an atheist....Glory be to Hassan and Richard Dawkins (Peace Be Upon Them Both)  Cheesy Cheesy

I faked praying for many months and in Ramadhan 2008, I fasted and prayed taraweeh as a closet atheist.
If Muslims can't take the apostasy of their followers, they should not be surprised when they find that there are fake Muslims worshipping in their midst.
