  • Islam - Tariq Pulsar Stars...
     OP - October 20, 2010, 10:18 AM

    Anyone heard of the new miracle about the Pulsar star:

    Quote
    Chapter 86 of the Quran is called At-Tariq, the literal meaning of At-Tariq is knocker, hammerer, striker, beater or pulsar, that's why many translator translated it to a night or morning visitor because both knock the door before visiting. Here are the translations:

    086.001
    Al-Hilali and Khan: By the heaven, and At-Tariq (the night-comer, i.e. the bright star);
    YUSUFALI: By the Sky and the Night-Visitant (therein);-
    PICKTHAL: By the heaven and the Morning Star
    SHAKIR: I swear by the heaven and the comer by night;

    086.002
    Al-Hilali and Khan: And what will make you to know what At-Tariq (night-comer) is?
    YUSUFALI: And what will explain to thee what the Night-Visitant is?-
    PICKTHAL: - Ah, what will tell thee what the Morning Star is!
    SHAKIR: And what will make you know what the comer by night is?

    More description about At-Tariq was given in the third verse, describing it as a piercing star

    086.003
    Al-Hilali and Khan: (It is) the star of piercing brightness;
    YUSUFALI: (It is) the Star of piercing brightness;-
    PICKTHAL: - The piercing Star!
    SHAKIR: The star of piercing brightness;

    So from these translations we find that At-Tariq is a piercing star that has a knocking sound. Of course if you know Arabic you will find this meaning very obvious.

    Now let us see what modern science says:

    Neutron stars are about 20 km in diameter and have the mass of about 1.4 times that of our Sun. This means that a neutron star is so dense that on Earth, one teaspoonful would weigh a billion tons! Because of its small size and high density, a neutron star possesses a surface gravitational field about 2 x 1011 times that of Earth. Neutron stars can also have magnetic fields a million times stronger than the strongest magnetic fields produced on Earth.

    Because of its high density, speed, etc., neutron stars can pierce any planet, therefore calling them piercing stars is the briefest and most accurate description could be made and that's what the Quran used.

    Surprisingly neutron stars were named pulsars because they pulse, i.e. make the sound of knocking which is the literal meaning of At-Tariq:

    http://www.jb.man.ac.uk/~pulsar/Education/Sounds/sounds.html

    It is worth noting that Pulsars were first discovered in 1967, however their description was given in the Quran 14 centuries ago.

    I thought in the 7th century they were unable to distinguish stars and plants (which can be seen with the naked eye) someone said this refers to Venus rater then a Pulsar star. Anyone who speaks Arabic want to help out?

    I see nothing there in regards to an actual pulsar at all, simply a bright [morning] star believed to be venus (I think) and bright stars appear to twinkle (pulsate), as noticed by anyone looking at them for more than several seconds.

    If this was any sort of Miracle, it goes to the writers of 'twinkle twinkle little star' as much as it does with the Quran.

    Ofcourse the whole thing is jumping one small hurdle here....that there is no evidence that the Quran ever mentions anything beyond human visibility from on Earth....just a little thing we seem to have sidestepped, not big deal, lulz...

    But Tariq means "knocker" pulsars make a sound, which is a knocking sound. Venus does not.

    At-Taariq means a 'visitor,' and it's quite obvious and well-known that the word is used to refer to Venus. The reason why it's described as having 'piercing brightness' is because venus is the third brightest object in the sky, so it only makes sense.

    There are sounds in the vacuum of space?

    As far as these scientifically illiterate cretins are concerned, yes.

    I think the reality of the situation is this:-

    The 'knocking' refers to the action, rather than a sound.
    This is ofcourse because (I assume) that when something is (being) knocked, it moves back and forth quickly (pulsates)...
    (It also looks like the word allows for this to be the case, though my Arabic is limited so don't quote me on it)

    Based on my opinion, I would say that the Quran is simply referring to a specific bright [star?] light in the sky and how it appears from looking at it on Earth, something that twinkles as if it's being hit, hence the 'knocking and pulsating' argument in question.

    Ofcourse I'm just throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks...

    The sound refers to recorded radio waves. NASA records background sound.

    Radio waves aren't sound waves.

    Possibly the most dishonest and twisted argument I've ever heard...
    I almost have to laugh, if not for how sad this is..

    Quran says:
    Bright star in the sky which is piercing in contrast to the dark night sky

    Muslim says:
    A pulsating neutron with a knocking sound (in space?) half way cross the galaxy which has the ability to physically pierce a planet due to its force and mass

    Conclusion: same thing. Snap out of it Snap out of it

    I wonder if non-Muslims are trolling the Muslims but searching for ridiculous stuff like these only for the Muslims to take them seriously; and then the non-Muslims LOL!!!!

    Err, so you don't 'listen to the radio?' lol

    Lol no.  You can't hear radio waves, they have to be translated into sound waves.  It is a metaphorical explaination to " hear " radio waves but not a literal one. But you knew this. These scientific miracles would be far more convincing if Muslims would claim them before those Kufar discover it when their athiestic science.

    So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

    But the whole point is they don't and then try to use these arguments and claim Islam knew first which pisses me off. There is no room to reason with them.
