Though I'm loath to admit, my views on evolution when I was a Muslim were similar to Abdur-Raheem Green (since I cant stand the guy). But I went further an believed that Adam and Eve were evolved in the way homo sapiens were according to the theory of evolution says but I used to argue that God put the first human souls into them.
I find this a decent level of acceptable progressive cognitive dissonance for religious people.
Progressive since:
- it doesn't pragmatically matter what the truth is (for the average individual who isn't an evolutionary biologist)
- and because it show the religious person is open to adjusting their religious views to fit around new science and instead of challenging it, engages with it.
Of course, best thing is for religious people to do is to snap out of it all together, but progress is better than nothing at all in this sense I think.
