  • Lifelong atheist makes a comeback
     OP - April 25, 2011, 09:38 PM

    Hi!

Some of you might remember me (the guy who looks like Shaggy grin12), most of you probably won't.

I joined the site while I was reading up on Islam, and learned a lot, but I eventually drifted away from the forum.  Cry

Recently I found myself in a discussion with a Western woman who had converted to Islam, and was writing a blog about how liberating she found it to wear a hijab. I pointed out to her that the hijab/niqab/burkah combo isn't mentioned a single time in the Quran, and that we have historical documents predating Islam by several centuries describing the face veil in the Middle East (note: remnants from the Age of Unenlightenment).

The discussion progressed, and we entered into a discussion on slavery. I asked her how she felt about the Quran giving Muslims permission to engage sexually with female slaves (as mentioned in the "Noble" Quran in 23:5-6 and 70:29-30). At this point she accused me of being anti-muslim! And I was quoting the Quran!!  Cheesy

I responded with several translations of the aforementioned verses, and I never got a reply back. Victory!  Afro

I have also run into the ridiculous numerology claims, and I am so sick and tired of them. This summer I am going to complete what I so lightly touched upon last year (http://www.councilofexmuslims.com/index.php?topic=11947.0): I'm going to write a comprehensive debunking on the numerology claims in the Quran - so I have something to link to whenever I need it. This will have to wait until my exams are done, of course. Smiley

Anyways, good to be back people! Hope you are all fine, and I hope your friends and loved ones are safe in these turbulent times in the Middle East!

    Welcome back!

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

    welcome back bro!

its funny to see how little these convert women actually know about the religion. they read some biased books and translations and get caught up in the emotional appeal and the exotic nature of the religion. let us know what she says if she ever replies Smiley

To back up her arguments, she kept giving me links to site where everyone wrote how much they loved Islam, even though I said I would only accept Quran/Hadith-references.  Roll Eyes I'm quite sure she had hardly ever read the Quran.

It has been nearly 2 weeks now, so I don't think she will ever reply.

    Hi Knight, welcome back

It has been nearly 2 weeks now, so I don't think she will ever reply.

Yeah I've had an email discussion with a friend of my niece, who is an Islam teacher in a school (the friend).
In her last mail she said (among other nonsense) "If we apply the Quran to our lives and live as the prophet lived, the world would be much better off".
Needless to say I went on a rampage pointing out the flaws (inheritance, slavery, familial implications of polygamy, ...).
Didn't hear anything from her either.
Then again, we are dealing with someone who linked me to a Harun Yahya book to give me insight in why evolution is wrong.

    @the newcomer

Is it safe to assume that you're against sex with slaves? I think slaves have a human right to sex just like anyone else. Of course I am joking. They obviously have no rights.
