"Paul Bettany portrays Charles Darwin during his great misgivings on completing his masterwork on evolution which contravened his wife's beliefs and would cause religious turmoil.
In anguish about the religious turmoil it could cause, and the tension it creates with his wife, Charles Darwin is delaying completion of his masterwork On the Origin of Species.
Taking pleasure in his children's interest in scientific truth, he is mindful of the disapproval of the village and does not want to incur the wrath of the whole world.
But as his health, and that of his beloved daughter Anne, deteriorates, he finally realises he must press on, despite his wife's misgivings."
Not much (if any) science in this, but a moving account of the psychological, professional and familial pressures associated with Charles Darwin's heresy and apostasy. This isn't new, though I'm not sure when it was first broadcast. I enjoyed it very much
. It will disappear from BBC iPlayer on Sunday so watch it while you can.
