56:77 — “Indeed, it is a noble qur’ān…”
56:79 — “…which none touch except the purified.”

Does this mean you can negate the supposed validity of the qur’ān by touching it when not in a state of ritual purity!?

Erm… The word thumma does not occur anywhere in that section of the surah.

I was just satirizing the general approach used by Quranic apologists. One of the common techniques is highlighting any and all linguistic vagaries of verses to ensure that they can/cannot say absolutely anything depending on the need of the moment.

In this case the defense though will more likely be on the grounds that the verses' meaning was metaphorical rather than literal, as in those who seek knowledge from it are among the pure of heart or something to that effect.
