What does it even matter... what place do unelected bishops have in a secular democracy?

Exactly. It is a matter of principle. Religion should be kept out of politics.

Sure, but then I don't see anyone claiming otherwise...

I'm sure we all, including HO, want Britain to be a secular democracy.
