  • Anyone has a dog as a pet? or any pets
     OP - October 13, 2011, 04:48 PM

So I know that dogs are considered unclean in Islam. I was wondering if anyone had any dogs as pets before or after being Muslim? And on that note, any pets in general.

I love my dogs. Madison would walk with me down the street (on her own) and waited with me as I waited for the bus to take me to school, every day for 2 years, even when I told her to go home because the streets could be dangerous. Every time I had a bad day my dogs would cheer me up, because they were always happy :3 Plus no one came near our house >:]

Anyone have any pet stories to share?

No.. There are plenty of progressive educated Muslims with Dogs as their pets..

I have a Jack Russell bitch called Pepe (I know, should be Pepa, but she doesn't know that, she's just a dog) and when she was but a teenager (in human years but months in dog years) we were walking past a neighbour's house one day during her 'dirty eating' phase. She would eat anything , dead or alive and I was always having to leap on her, pin her to the ground and thrust my fingers to the back of her throat to extract whatever excrescence she'd just taken a fancy to.
Anyway, our neighbour, old Gwyllim , had just had a prostate operation and I was enquiring after his health, not watching the dog and not realising that she was taking an unnatural interest in the rubber tube projecting from his pyjama-leg bottom. Before I could say, 'Don't you dare', she'd seized it and was giving it a good yanking and I quickly realised that the other end was attached to the softest part of his anatomy.  Gwyllim was yowling, Pepe was growling and I had to lift her into the air to take the weight off his distressed organ.  When I'd managed to prise her jaws open and order was restored, some cotton wool covered in earwax fell to the ground and, swift as white light, she seized it up, forcing me to operate, again.  At first I didn't know what it was but when I'd recovered it Gwyllim apologised and explained. Pretty decent of him in the circumstances, I thought.  Anyway, I was, all in all, cringingly embarrassed and decided to beat an apologetic retreat myself.

Hitler owned a dog and was a vegetarian...

    Little Fly, Thy summer's play
My thoughtless hand has brushed away.

I too dance and drink, and sing,
Till some blind hand shall brush my wing.

Therefore I am a happy fly,
If I live or if I die.

I'm allergic to pet animals, and extremely terrified of them too.

    And...?

I've always been around dogs and cats growing up but my parents never allowed them.

I just got three society finches.  I couldn't get the owl finches I wanted.  I love dogs, but I love outdoor mutts much more than breeded indoor dogs so I won't get one unless I have a yard.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

I have two chihuahuas. One of them is my seizure alert dog. He is a really neat dog, and smart. He knows before I do when I'm going to have a seizure or real bad headache and will give a signal by standing on his back legs and tapping my leg with his front paw. He also tries to trick me so I'll lay down and take a nap with him. If I call him on it and he is faking he'll lay down on his back with his feet up and peek at me through half closed eyes. Now that I have good control with medication he still follows me around the house and yard, very content to keep an eye me. He always looks worried when I leave the house to go some place. However now that once ever 3 weeks or so when I hae a problem his right there.
My other chihuahua is just for fun. She thinks she's the princes. She has pretty callors and clothes.
My other dog is an American bull terrior. She's very pretty. Her eyes are more of a green color, and fur color is called fawny blue. My chihuahua taught her how to help him when I have siezures or headaches.
I also have a 50 gallon fish pond in my livingroom. I have 2 koi, 4 shubunkin goldfish. 1 common goldfish, and 3 pictus catfish.

If at first you succeed...try something harder.

Failing isn't falling down. Failing is not getting back up again.

Parents never allowed cats and dogs or even hamsters. However, recently my cousin gave us a little canary that sings very prettily and I love him so much dance It does seem kinda cruel to keep it in a cage, but I try to fool myself thinking that he wouldn't survive long outside, what with all them predators.

I keep buying him stuff to enhance his cage, and food that he likes, like dried figs. I'm also in charge of cleaning his cage and dealing with the bird poop! Love it.

He's no friend to the friendless
And he's the mother of grief
    There's only sorrow for tomorrow
    Surely life is too brief

My mother's family had a pet dog when she was little. She tells me about it sometimes. I think she really liked the thing. But the woman doesn't like hairy animals these days, only birds. She really wants lovebirds right now. We had a pet parrot when i was a baby but I don't remember. Apparently it flew away when my parents were moving back home from the city we lived in at the time. I've had goldfish and a budgie over the years. Not really an animal person, but I do love intelligent birdies. It's very fun w hen you're at someone's house and you try to get their pet birds to like you. Scary at first.

"If intelligence is feminine... I would want that mine would, in a resolute movement, come to resemble an impious woman."
