What are your thoughts on this? I personally think this is a bit too much and that we should rather put our efforts into  battling ignorance rather than use resources for something like this.

Sky-bound was the mind, earth-bound the body rests."

Something related to education would be a better idea IMO.

People have been building statues to their heroes since stone tools. I think it's only an issue for atheists because theist apologists tend to look for opportunities to argue that atheism is a religion or a belief system in order to paint it as faith-based or as irrational as theirs, and that the statue will be an idol of worship thus proving the idea.

I'm sure something like that will happen, some kind of commemoration in terms of scholarships, or a prize in his name for something related to literature, political writings, or for contributions to secularism or reason.

Another good idea would be for an annual lecture in his name, high profile, on subjects that are Hitchens-esque.

+1. I totally agree with you on this.

I wouldn't mind worshipping or following the example of prophet Hitch (pbuh).  Tongue

There's nothing wrong with building a statue in remembrance of a great man. (That's what the purpose of a statue is anyways). As long as they don't go overboard with the cost.

In my opinion a life without curiosity is not a life worth living

A foundation in his name may be a better idea. A garden would be nice too. I dont know about a statue, perhaps one day, nothing would piss god off more than a graven image of his nemesis. I Just think that statues are usually dedicated many years after a death. Sometimes even after a generation or two, until history acquires a more sober view.

I am better than your god......and so are you.
