  • The Non Muslim distinction between 'good' and 'bad' islam
     OP - July 06, 2012, 05:09 PM

I have noticed that when non muslims are trying to come across as liberal, tolerant, and respectful of islam, they usually make a distinction between 'good' muslims and 'bad' muslims.
In making this distinction, they think they are arguing that the 'real' Islam has been hijacked by extremists with the wrong interpretation. They feel that they are defending Islam from disrespectful Islamophobes. But the distinction they are actually making is simply one of religiosity: - Good Muslims are those who aren't really Muslim.

They dont realise it, but they are actually saying that they really do not like Islam.

For example, this girl is distinguising between Muslims who go down the pub and drink, and Anjem Choudary:

and this is what reminded me of it:

Well I don't think they really know that. Most of those people have not studied Islam in detail. In fact the vast majority of them have never actually picked up a Koran.

It is like George Bush saying Islam is a religion of peace. What does he really know about it? Well he is a politician so he has to make statements like that. But geneerally when non-Muslims make statements like that it should be remembered that they have not studied Islam at all.

There's a very simple test I like to apply.

If you had to pick between 'Islam' and treating a person well... and you choose 'Islam'... you are part of 'Bad Islam'.
If you choose treatment of a person well over 'Islam... then you are part of 'Good Islam'

That's as simple as it gets.
