  • They're all stories.
     OP - March 18, 2012, 01:18 AM

Watched A Clash of Titans on Sky with my mum recently, and even though she watched for the entertainment value she kept going on about how fantastical the stories were, demi-gods, Zues etc. Like the story was verging on blasphemy but also what great minds came up with this.

Yesterday went to watch John Carter with my muslim friends, afterwrads they spent some time pointing out the religious parallels with life on earth. But thatultimately it was a good story.

I think it to myself - can't you/people  see, the story of man as told by montheism is just another fuckin story.

I am my own worst enemy and best friend, itsa bit of a squeeze in a three-quarter bed, tho. Unhinged!? If I was a dog I would be having kittens, that is unhinged. Footloose n fancy free, forced to fit, fated to fly. One or 2 words, 3 and 3/thirds, looking comely but lonely, till I made them homely.D

    i've had those moments too..
but then i remember what i used to be like.. billy said it best in the other thread when he said "islam trumps everything".. i would like to think if the "muslim world" had more exposer to stories or media or sci-fi films that maybe it would view religion in a different light, but i don't know ..

No one go watch Wrath of the Titans, piss poor film. What is interesting is the demigod theme in greek mythology, never struck me before but this must be where the christian belief in a Son of God must have taken its inspiration from. Christianity could have been the paganised form of judaism, islam went the other way.

One thing I have noticed from trying to learn a bit of Arabic on wikipedia is that the Arabic wikipedia puts all articles about Pre-Abrahamic religions in the "Mythology Portal" (بوابة ميثولوجيا). Whereas wikipedia articles in Western languages make no such distinctions between articles about Abrahamic and non-Abrahamic religions.

In fact it goes beyond that, even some archaeological sites that are definately real places are also put in the "Mythology" portal, such as the site of Karnak in Egypt, one of the countries biggest tourist attractions. It is almost as if they are disputing that the place was even real.

i would like to think if the "muslim world" had more exposer to stories or media or sci-fi films that maybe it would view religion in a different light

Why? Do sci-fi movies not get much play in the Muslim World?

    Cognitive dissonance.

"If intelligence is feminine... I would want that mine would, in a resolute movement, come to resemble an impious woman."

Well, the difference between the most famous son of god in Greek mythology (Heracles, or Hercule by his Latin name) and Jesus is striking. Heracles was some fucking badass and a little bastard that made Chuck Norris look like a pussy. He got many womens, and always forgot them when he found a new, younger, prettier one. After he died (the guy committed suicide after putting on some horrible poisoned clothes he couldn't remove and that made him suffer as hell. Love story gone wrong, rapist centaur vengeance, that kind of stuff happens grin12), he was not reincarnated by went to Mount Olympus to live with the Gods.
The story may have similarities, but the characters are really nothing alike.

Went to watch the new Batman movie, thought the only thing going for it was the music and Anne Hathaway in a in black leather astride a motorbike. Oh and the bombs going off underneath Gotham.

Don't get me wrong, acceptable level of action but not a patch on the previous film with Heath Ledger as the Joker, that imo was amaazing, or was it that because he had died, I don't think so, that movie was ace.

This one has a more comic book feel to it but it was outrageous to the extreme with its sequences and plot.
