  • A question concerning our origins according to the coran
     OP - January 28, 2013, 06:08 PM

If Adam and Eve descended from heaven how come they were so primitive and technologically undeveloped? Did god erase their memories or was there no technology in heaven?

My question is how come humanity had to evolve from having no language and living in caves and having a stick and stones as their only technology if according to the coran we are all sons of Adam and Eve who came from heaven.

Either heaven is just a garden with no technology and everyone is dumb and naked, or heaven never existed.

What response should I expect if I asked this to a muslim? and what do you think of this?

Sorry if I am not clear, English is not my first language.

    Thanks.

You make a great point. I'm also interested in knowing how come there are black people, Asian people, middle eastern people and Caucasian people if everyone on earth descended from Adam and Eve?

You must realize there is no logic to creation myths around the world. They are tailored to suit the people in the region and the culture and thus the characters in them are made to looks like them.
As for technology again you must understand people at that time had no idea what that was, their idea of heaven was what they knew and perceived in their time period.
An anticipated answer for any religious person is the same cop out response which is "God knows best" or " We don't have to concern ourselves with these things, just believe it because it said so."

Also you might find interesting Lilith the missing woman in the Genesis creation stories (Only acknowledged in original Hebrew mythology), that was taken out because she was too hardcore feminist who called God out on his bullshit and left the Garden of Eden. However in the Hebrew myth they turned her into a demon for being disobedient when she may not original had been that in previous myths.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilith

    Quote
In Jewish folklore, from the 8th–10th centuries Alphabet of Ben Sira onwards, Lilith becomes Adam's first wife, who was created at the same time and from the same earth as Adam. This contrasts with Eve, who was created from one of Adam's ribs. The legend was greatly developed during the Middle Ages, in the tradition of Aggadic midrashim, the Zohar and Jewish mysticism.[3] In the 13th Century writings of Rabbi Isaac ben Jacob ha-Cohen, for example, Lilith left Adam after she refused to become subservient to him and then would not return to the Garden of Eden after she mated with archangel Samael.[4] The resulting Lilith legend is still commonly used as source material in modern Western culture, literature, occultism, fantasy, and horror.

In pagan religion she is revered as a strong-willed female goddess of sorts. (If you research up Lilith's role in Paganism she's portrayed definitely) Don;t quote me on these sources, these are just alternative interpretations of the character that apparently pre-dates the Genesis story.

    Quote
Lilith the goddess of female sexuality
she is also the Goddess of female independance
The goddess who once protected mothers and infants

So you see Creation stories are illogical from all angles and are simply borrowed rehashed old stories. And any intellectual person in this modern age would be embarrassed to acknowledge this as fact or even compatible with evolution.

Didn't Adam have one black and one white son? Ok doesn't explain how Asians happened XD

@ topic: I used to think about that, especially while writing a program for Ray Bradbury's "Time in thy Flight".
In the story, the children of the future use a time machine to travel back to our world, and they are amazed by the features of our current world.

The idea of travelling back (especially from a future world), different governments, philosophies, technology...it just shows how we have grown through trial and errors, the spreading of ideas, money, politics blahblah.
The biblical story can never stand in a historical perspective. It's an insult to our ancestors and to us. Who knows where the future will take us? Well we can speculate by reading history books and scifi novels.

Ray Bradbury <3 What an amazing writer. Peace and blessings be upon him!
