On one level, this kind of thing is totally stupid and arguably unethical. On another level, it fukn rocks. Draw your own conclusions.

The America's Cup race is one of the oldest and most prestigious yacht races in the world. In other words, it's always been a playground for filthy rich bastards with huge bank accounts and bigger egos. Despite this, it has managed to produce some coolness over the past century and a half. This year it's on again (happens every four years or so) and they decided to liven things up a bit by introducing a new class of boat to race with.
The result is 72 feet long, weighs around 7 tons, and in a normal sailing breeze will get up and boogie on hydrofoils, giving a top speed up around 50 miles an hour. This is, IMHO, pretty bloody impressive stuff and would be great to watch live.
Inevitably, somebody is going to get it wrong and flip one of these at top speed. That should keep the punters entertained.

Anyway, couple of vids of them testing....
