  • Does CEMB need to be interviewed by BBC etc?
     OP - May 24, 2013, 09:28 PM

Following Woolwich, I wonder if some real criticism of Islam by ex muslims is needed in the press.  There have been quotes here about how the koran does encourage recent behaviour, there are terrible examples of how out of touch Islam is in misogyny, homophobia, domestic violence and similar.

A succinct press release and media interviews by ex muslims who no longer follow the party line could be very powerful and actually stop a swing to the right.

You are right, but cannot see it happening somehow.

We're open to it, but it seems the media is not ready for us... too bad, especially since they have been airing orthodox Muslim apologists like Mo Ansar and total right wing nutbars like Anjem Choudhary. Roll Eyes

Why do you say that?  As I understand it CEMB views are incredibly newsworthy, and there are organisations like BHA and sympathetic journalists and others who will definitely promote well thought out statements and interviews.

And actually to state there are very different views will be very valuable for those who are probably currently keeping their heads down.

It is quite interesting, I cannot see anyone daring to accuse CEMB of apostacy or blasphemy currently for example, and it will be very important in putting these attitudes completely beyond the pale.

This is an absolutely terrible idea, unless we have a scholar amongst our ranks.

Best person/people for that schizo would probably be the Rationaliser and Hassan, or that German Islamic Theologian who was a convert but left the deen afterwards. Has anybody here tried to contact that dude by the way?

I don't see what is the point to be honest. Things just need to calm down. Some mosques have been attacked, people are stressed. People just want reassuring words at a time like this.

Isn't it time for some game changing moves though?  To make it clear there are alternatives?

I think it should be tried. It'll take a very brave person.
