In this brief exert from a interview Richard critiques the Muslim journalist on his belief in flying horses and the splitting of the moon by the prophet…

When asked about creationism - the journalist blatantly lies in order to save face!  The Qu'Ran pretty much mirrors the bibles version of genesis in many ways but the Muslim journalist (an apparently well regarded one) lies:)

I'm trying to find the full interview to see if Richard picks him up on this lie but from his response he may not have…

    Excellent viewing though!

I think there is a much older Greek myth about splitting rocks, the quran can't be copying and garbling old stories can it?

    Quote
Such was his vain lament; then up he rose (I saw it all) as a fierce thwarted bull roams through the woodlands and familiar fields, and, spying in his rage Acis and me, all unaware and fearing no such fate, shouted `I see you; now I shall make sure that loving fond embrace shall be your last.' Loud as an angry Cyclops ought to shout he shouted; Aetna shuddered at the din. Then I in panic dived into the sea beside us; the hero Symaethius [Acis] had already turned his hero's back and shouted as he fled `Help, Galatea! Father, mother, help! Admit me to your kingdom for I die.' Cyclops pursued and hurled a massive rock, torn from the hill, and though its merest tip reached Acis, yet it crushed and smothered him. But I (it was all the Fates permitted me) caused Acis to assume his ancestral powers [i.e. he was a a grandson of the River Symaithos]. Beneath the rock came trickling crimson blood, and soon the ruddy hue began to fade, and turned the colour of a swollen stream after the first rain falls, and in a while it cleared. Then in the rock a crack split wide and in the fissure rose a tall green reed, and from the hollow opening came the sound of waters leaping forth, and suddenly--most wonderful!--there stood a youth waist deep with woven rushes round his new-sprung horns; and he, though larger and his face wave-blue, was surely Acis--Acis there himself, changed to a River-God (Numen Flumina); and still the same his waters keep that legendary name."

That is a great tube link  woody68 .. thank you..  Here is that full 50mts  interview/debate  of that fool Mehdi Hasan  with dr. Dawkins..

     http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRd-jlV82BI

watch the fool  talk nonsense about Quran  from 22.44 mts to 23.13 mts.,  On creation of  the heavens and earth in six days, he says "Quran does not say that heavens and earth are created in six days"  Indeed that fool Mehdi Hasan did not read Quran in its entirety .

    Quote
Sahih International: Indeed, your Lord is Allah , who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne. He covers the night with the day, [another night] chasing it rapidly; and [He created] the sun, the moon, and the stars, subjected by His command. Unquestionably, His is the creation and the command; blessed is Allah , Lord of the worlds.

Even that nonsense is copied from OT/NT .. There is nothing new and nothing  original in Quran,  except the verses on sex women and talq..talaq. These well educated  Muslim guys  like Hassan  never read Quran, hadith, sunnah and Islamic history and this not reading Quran carefully is much worse with fools that come from Indian subcontinent or those who moved from east to west.

Dawkins was so soft in that, he concedes way too many points. Maybe that is just part of his rhetoric?

A couple of times it was brought up that many scientists believe in God, Dawkins simply concedes this point but then says that those scientists usually have a very vague belief in a conscious force in the universe rather than being religious literalists. But the fact is that actually only a minority of scientists believe in God in the first place.

Also when some guy in the audience starting saying that religions have tamed human civilization and made it more humane and he brings up Romans and Persians as examples of how barbaric humans used to be. What pathetic examples were those? How were religious conquests like those done by Catholic Spain in Latin America or Muslim Arabs in MENA anymore "Humane" than the Roman and Persian conquests? Dawkins should have called him out on that nonsense rather than partially agreeing with him by saying that religion only explains part of why civilization has become more humane, religion has almost nothing to do with it, if anything it is the questioning and scrutiny of religious dogma that allowed for civilizations to become more humane.

Which completely ignores the fact that the Romans and Persians were actually highly religious.

I am not sure why dr. Dawkins  goes around speaking to fools on TV..

Dawkins should know any one who  speaks like this  "non-Muslims live like animals"??  doesn't deserve his time...   Fool now acting like an international statesman/spokes person  for all abrahmic religions..

They claim the fruits of secularism, humanism, the enlightenment retrospectively as aspects of religion. They've got chutzpah that's for sure.

After many years of atheist activism he probably is losing the enthusiasm/interest for debating with the religious.

I mean I became an atheist in 2011 and I'm already over my obsession with atheist books and debates.

The debate does get repetitive so I wouldn't be surprised if he retires from being a public atheist and just focuses on his science.

People like Medhi hassan are really despicable.
They act civilized and behave themselves in any official Media or among any non-Muslim presence, but when the doors are closed and only Muslim inside. They spew shit and hateful things that they cannot dare to say it in front of the people.

ironically, it remind me of particular verse in the Qur'an

"And when they fall in with those who believe, they say: We believe; but when they go apart to their devils they declare: Lo! we are with you; verily we did but mock." Sura 2:14

"Science has also poisoned the environment."
Seriously? Is that the best argument you could come up with Sir Mehdi Hasan?

Can I just say how much I enjoyed the little snippet from Greek myth. Thanks for that   thnkyu

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'
