    A self-aggrandizing experience.

    In college there was this girl called Kelly and she told me that she was an atheist and thought that God could nt exist on account of the suffering in the world.

    I pitied her for the fact that she could not udnerstand that the suffering had a purpose in the form of testing us ignorant mortals.

    I told her that by the end of our two years together that she would become a 'true believer'.

    Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if we met up today and had a conversation.  Huh?

    I don't think the issue is actually a theist vs atheist issue.

    There are as many different types of theists as there are different types of atheists.

    I talk to people of all kinds of believes and / or lack of believes frequently. It depedends more on the individuals mindset. I've talked to people of my own belief who have absolutely shocked me by their stubborn judgement when they should will know that their only position is to present information that a person may have an opportunity to hear if they would like to. I've talked to so called free thinkers that are no more free then a person in cased in concrete because they are so in fear that any mold or group might trap them that they hold no opinion at all that is truly there own. Most people are however rather normal and able to exchange and reason on ideas and information rather well without hysteria and insult.

    Even  like  Jedi's example. So many would like to use that particular subject for disbelieving in a God . It seems as well as the nexts as it is presented by many religionist or theist . It is actually an interesting topic for those who perfer not to talk in circles and like to compare different lines of thought on the matter. Here again those holding to some god or God can be as bad to communicate with as those who do not.

    Also sometimes I have not much intention of telling someone else what I think on a matter only enough to find out what they think because I know it is something I haven't thought. Sometime that's an interesting conversation. Not I suppose if you do it to trick the person but if you really only want that out of the conversation.

    For me sometimes it is frustrating, but I generally like talking to Atheists better then talking to Muslims.

    From I've seen it is very frustrating for Atheists to have a dialogue with Theists.

    It is incredibly frustrating (when I was a theist). I always thought of atheists as the "know-it-all, arrogant" type. I don't know whether this was because of the Quran's indoctrination or just an observation. Perhaps a little bit of both.

    I am certain about one thing though. Poking fun at my religious beliefs (different from criticism) never really helped me realize the irrationality of them. In fact, it gave me even more motivation to defend my faith from ridicule, making me forget the fact that Islam was not true.

    In the Theistic view most Atheists are portrayed as "know-it-all, arrogant types. In some cases it is true, but not in all.

    I guess I can find some common ground with C1981.
    I however might put a few more details in:
    Some Theists view some Atheists as know-it-all, arrogant types because SOME ARE.
    Some Theists view some Atheists as know-it-all, arrogant types because the Theist is insecure in their own understanding.
    Some Atheists view some Theists as uneducated head in the sand fools because SOME ARE.
    Some Atheists view some Theists as uneducated head in the sand fools because the Atheist is unwilling to see other posibilities that they are unable to understand.
    Actually a person could go on and on and on about all the possible situations that might exist.about the way different Atheists feel about conversations.Theists and Theists with Atheists

    At least you know your position in the scheme of things and make it clear to others. That saves a lot of time and takes the guess work out of wondering what type of conversation is possible with you.

    Some arrogant people actually do know alot but there is no one that knows it all.
    I find in most cases the more a person knows the more likely they are to realize the possibility that there are many things that they don't know there by realizing there is less cause to be arrogant about an amount of aquired knowledge...
    This of course doesn't mean a person should be unsure about what they do know just an awareness of the very vast amount of things that there are  to learn about.
    In general my thought about people that have to act arrogantly about what they know is that they have some level of insecurity or perhaps something to prove to themself.
    There are people that at first encounter would not seem to know much aboout aything but upon getting to know the person they have rather good insight. Perhaps not in academia but in life skills or art or tracking wild boars. This doesn't have anything to with being a Theist or Atheist at the on set except that people should all be seen first as individuals. Certainly not classed as Atheists or Theists as regards how reasoning they are or how open they are to the discussion of ideas outside their comfort zone.

    Or maybe Dr_Sloth was joking. I'm still not very good at joking.
