My old Arabic professor said when bin Laden died, he was a fake Muslim. Was he? Why did he hate America? Why did he attack people on his own soil? How could he decry whether people were fake Muslims or not? Or is it the insanity that is Islam?

pierced_beauty, I had an interesting conversation with a Palestinian one day after 9/11. I went to buy the Globe and Mail in his shop. There was a big picture of the twin towers collapsing on the front page.

As soon as he saw the picture he started ranting - Americans got what they deserved and there should be more such bombings carried out by Muslims etc. Americans are the real terrorists.

He went on to praise bin Laden and other perpetrators. So I asked him few questions such as, does Islam permit these types of attcaks where innocent people get killed and why are Muslims celebrating the killing of Americans.

All of a sudden he went into a defence mode. He yelled, "they are not real Muslims". He did not see anything wrong with contradicting himself.

Your Arabic professor may be like that Palestinian.

I wouldn't worry too much about what is a fake or a true Muslim.  You should probably look towards a person's actions and their prescribed world view. True Muslim TM is just a rhetorical device that everyone that calls themself Muslim fights over.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

Hmm, that's true. I am not a fan of America myself and I told my grandma one day we got what we deserved and oh man, she flipped. My grandma's Catholic (I was born Catholic) and she hollered, "you're just like those Muslims!" But, Catholics think horrible things too (i.e. the Holocaust and being glad it happened... a lot of my Catholic relatives that passed on thought the Jews got what was coming to them)

It's weird that you'd type such a phrase, when you claimed in several threads that you'd converted back to Islam.

Then how come she's still shown as an ex-Muslim in her avatar?

How do you define a "true muslim"?
Most Muslims who distant themselves from terror attacks claim that he wasn't a "true Muslim". Some say that only allah can judge if he was or not.

Fact is, he regarded himself a true Muslim (actually that's not a fact, that's what I believe personally) and he actually believed he was gonna get rewarded for his actions.

I didn't convert back. I changed my mind and I knew my parents would be very disappointed if I did.
