  • Which is more blasphemous?
     OP - February 07, 2015, 10:26 AM

To say there is no God or to say there is no Allah?

    Quote
Blasphemy laws are being challenged in a new global campaign launched by a coalition of humanist organisations. The International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU) says that, in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo attacks in France, the time is right for countries to abolish laws that protect religious sensibilities. But blasphemy laws nevertheless remain popular in many parts of the world.

I get the impression that blasphemy laws are a product of bullying controlling societies.

Logically, if a law is reasonable it should be enforced everywhere equally.

So why do we not get equal complaints of offence from Muslims about atheists putting posters on buses - "there is probably no god".?

No God was seen as the worse of the two views. Islam allowed some leeway when it comes to competing views of God. Christianity and Judaism still believe in God but have altered concepts which can be corrected, according to Islam. Yet to believe in no God is to toss the whole concept out the window. Hence why theists often flock together against atheist views since they have the concept in common. Once the external "threat" to the concept is no longer present many will be reduced to the common bickering over which version is the true version either by dialogue, violence or a mix of the two. Islam is a proselytizing religion so there is no true middle ground or acceptance of a plural view of God. It's Allah or the highway.

Sorry!  I meant to say "no God" or "no Allah"!

Would saying there is no Allah be treated as a worse blasphemy than stating there is no God?

I get the impression that it is a worse blasphemy!

How many grades of blasphemy are there?
