    Jeddah’s Criminal Court sentenced a website founder to 10 years in prison, SR1 million fine and 1,000 lashes after the jury found him guilty of publishing inflammatory remarks against religion and religious figures, including the Kingdom’s grand mufti.Makkah’s Court of Appeal approved the verdict.

    Both the defendant and the general prosecution were present during the hearing.The verdict includes a previous seven-year prison sentence. Both the general and criminal courts, however, had refused a death sentence against the defendant during several hearings. The public prosecutor on the case had demanded severe punishment for breaching the Kingdom’s anti-cyber crime law, citing several examples of posts on the website mocking the Kingdom’s religious police, and said he deserved the verdict for intentionally violating laws.

    The defendant’s computer was also confiscated.
