Just caught 5 minutes of this program, and not by choice. I can't help but think, every time I bump into it, that it is not on prime time tv for merit alone. I doubt also if it's viewing figures compare that favourably to other programs that could fit into that slot. IMO, it could be an attempt by the do-gooding wing of the BBC to build a bridge between the evident cultural gap that exists between Muslims and non-Muslims in this country.

On the one side it perhaps serves the purpose of helping non-Muslims understand the human and humorous side of the otherwise mainly vilified Muslim community. On the other side of the coin, it serves to encourage Muslims, especially younger impressionable ones, who are the program's main target group, that they should perhaps lighten up just a tad, and not just about their culture, but also about their religion. Basically, they are being encouraged to stop taking it all so seriously and so literally, in case this one day helps reduce any existing potential for radicalisation... Perhaps the program also acts as source of pride, or as a pat on the back to this often-alienated community, to remind them that they too have a place in our colourful tapestry of British culture?

What are your thoughts. Do you think there is more than meets the eye with this program? Is there an agenda? Or am I just talking shit like usual?

It is a genuinely funny and clever program. I love it. The Second series is amazing.

Ws the Desmonds part of an agenda as well? Or Goodness Gracious Me? Or Fawlty Towers?
