That was a really excellent and sad story yeezevee, thanks for sharing. Fuck Desi culture, it would be worse than HELL having Desi in-laws! If I ever marry, I'm going to marry a non-Pakistani and if my parents don't accept it then it's too bad for them.

I think it depends on what kind of in-laws they are. Loads of Pakistanis are very mod (my parents being one of them--
NOT THAT I'M SELLING MYSELF TO YOU ). But my sister married into a family who have settled here way before us, so they have kept their culture intact (annoyingly). Everyone in their family is older, so they are less likely to change. So while they're more "Pakistani", their kids are also more rebellious.
I also don't think this is exclusively a Pakistani/Indian problem. I'm pretty sure my Chinese friends go through something similar re: parents controlling lives and not integrating fully. It's just the way it is, being an immigrant and all.
Anyway, actually regarding the topic: I think I have very little sympathy.
Maybe in a few years haha.
