     OP - October 16, 2016, 08:28 PM

    Hi all,

I am an ex-convert, having dedicated the last 15 years of my life to Islam, only to leave it about a few months ago after some serious doubt and critical research. A month ago my wife had left me and I am now in the process of a very painful divorce. We have three beautiful children. I lost all of my friends as well as the community I was devoted to for the last 15 years.

Not to be a total downer, but I feel quite alone.

On a brighter note, but completely honestly, I feel better in many ways than I have in years and feel very alive. I also feel as if an occupying army was ejected from my brain. I just wish I didn't have to lose my family.

Anyways, it is good to be here.

How about the friends you had before the 15 year interlude? Is it possible to reach out to them?

I'm glad you came here too.  bunny

Welcome cowslip.  Sorry to hear about your problems.   Are you at least going to have visitation rights to your kids ?  In the west you would be entitled to that.
    Regards.

I am in contact with the friends I had before. Unfortunately, so much time has passed, many of them have moved on, have families, etc. And the last thing I want is to come back on the scene with a bunch of problems. It's awkward.

Yes, I do have partial custody, which is awesome. I'm very happy about that.

And thanks for the warm welcome!

    Very warm welcome Cowslip  parrot

It's good if you still have some contact to older friends. And I'm sure you'll find new friends, the same as you found those when you were religious.

I also distanced myself from my old friends I used to have, who were more religious than I was.

Welcome! It took me seventeen years after conversion to come back to reality. I understand. I miss the ummah the most.
