Ok, I'll make it simple and short:
024.006
YUSUFALI: And for those who launch a charge against their
spouses, and have (in support) no evidence but their own,- their solitary evidence (can be received) if they bear witness four times (with an oath) by Allah that they are solemnly telling the truth;
PICKTHAL: As for those who accuse their
wives but have no witnesses except themselves; let the testimony of one of them be four testimonies, (swearing) by Allah that he is of those who speak the truth;
SHAKIR: And (as for) those who accuse their
wives and have no witnesses except themselves, the evidence of one of these (should be taken) four times, bearing Allah to witness that he is most surely of the truthful ones.
Pickthal and Shakir are correct, take a look:
024.007
YUSUFALI: And the fifth (oath) (should be) that they solemnly invoke the curse of Allah on
themselves if they tell a lie;
PICKTHAL: And yet a fifth, invoking the curse of Allah on
him if he is of those who lie;
SHAKIR: And the fifth (time) that the curse of Allah be on
him if he is one of the liars.
And finally YusufAli admits that this right is the husband's:
YUSUFALI: And the fifth (oath) should be that
she solemnly invokes the wrath of Allah on herself if (her accuser) is telling the truth.
All pronouns in the Arabic verse 7 are masculine, I dunno why YusufAli used the plural!!
Even verse 6 was addressed to men..!!
==========
Now, a husband who thinks that his wife did it, can do what the verse says.
It's called "Mula'ana" or "Li'aan" in Arabic, no witnesses ===> he swears by Allah four times. she can defend herself by swearing 4 times that he's a liar;
Ok, what about those wives who have doubts about their hubbies?
Even if some ppl view it as a 'negligible unjust.' Why does Quran always favor men? it mentioned nothing about wives being the accusers, and of course all scholars limited this right to men.
