The mosque

I just would like to know when was the al-aqsa(is that the name of the mosque ) mosque, the one that Muslims believe to be the first kiblah (direction of pray) before the ka'aba, was built . Kindly provide a reference, be it a book or a link. Thank you.

When it was the first Qibla, it was referring to the ruins of the Second Temple, to which the Jews were (and are) praying; not a mosque later built by the Ummayad caliph Abd al-Malik and his son al-Walid in 705 CE (WikiP). Also called 'Bayt al-Maqdis', the Arabic related to the Hebrew name for it, 'Beit Ha-Miqdash'.

I chose to get circumcised at 17, don't tell me I never believed.

thanks, it is the same mosque that muhammad claim to be ascended to the heaven, right? and could you please be a kind soul as to provide me with a refence either from the al-hadiths or the seera that stated that it was refering to the ruins rather than the mosque itself? because the last time i check ruins means a destroyed or decayed building, town, etc. This is rather confusing for me.

I don't know of any that reference that it was the ruins, it just says masjid, or bayt al-maqdis -from memory. When Umar arrived there as conquerer, it was ruins, because the Romans had destroyed it centuries before; Christians using it as a garbage dump (to offend the Jews. The act saying, 'the Temple (and Torah) are no longer necessary after Christ'). Muhammad is reported to have described Jerusalem accurately (the claim being he never been there, but he's been to Sham plenty of times ) and that he seen a caravan on it's way from there (also, could've just been expecting it; or it's all fabricated ).

I'll cite references for you later, inshallah . (I'm not the man with the swiftness on that.)
