  • Request for a Video on the War of Succession

    Hey guys,

Just wanted to ask if someone who is knowledgeable about this topic could make a video outlining the power struggle that ensued after Muhammad's death. I don't remember now if the Anthony Quinn movie "The Message" covered any of this historical material -- I saw it years ago when I was a kid -- but it might be cool to use some of the footage in that. Wink

In any event, I think it would make a very good project, particularly given that traditionalists try to whitewash or romanticize these incidents ... Hassan, all eyes on you, since you've made some great videos in the past. Afro

I think the Message ended shortly after Mo died, with Abu Bakr's words, "Whoever worshipped Mo, Mo's dead, but Allah lives"

I chose to get circumcised at 17, don't tell me I never believed.

Pretty ironic given that the Sunnis went on to practically construct a cult of personality around Muhammad.

Yeah I don't think that movie addressed that part.

I think such a thing would be great, actually. The nature of Prophecy is much better understood when considered with respect to the immediate aftermath. Of course, as those of you who have been talking to me probably can guess, I'm keen on the parallels between that division and the bloody divisions that followed the other prophets of the Judaism, and why these archetypes reemerge. But never mind, even a negative video would be better than silence!

lol... sounds like a great idea Ned. I generally stick to Qur'an/Muhammad, but perhaps it's time to branch out - I'll give it some thought Smiley

"Man kana ya'budi Muhammadan fa inna Muhammadan Qad Maat - wa man kan ya'budu Allah, fa inna Allah Hayyun la yamoot!"

Fucking great line - still sends shivers down my spine!

True, and who knows if Abu Bakr really did stand up and suddenly address all the grieving Muslims and say that or whether it is a nice story made up much later - but whatever the case, it would have a made a dramatic scene in a movie  grin12

they would have censored Abu Bakr the same way South Park censored Muhammad if the scene was done grin12
