Yeah, but he got too deep in the publication of his conversion for him to back out publicly. There is a significant safety issue that plays a role in his case.

Yep, he'd be better off keeping his apostasy a secret otherwise his life could really be made hell! I still have his books which I'll be flogging soon!

It's sad though because he's married to a Saudi woman and has two kids with her (If I'm not mistaken). I couldn't care less of what his wife may think about his apostasy, but his kids deserves to know the truth. Because at one hand he'll be raising them with Islamic values (led mostly by his wife I'm sure) but on the other hand he's not really a believer. When his kids find out, imagine the shock, and the possible hatred it may bring for their father. They won't think he is any less than a hypocrite. I think he should tell his kids as soon as they are old enough--like in their 20's or so.

Then again, this is assuming he IS a closet Apostate. He may still be a believing Muslim--just not doing lectures anymore.

Oh and btw, don't flog his books. Yes, they are not persuasive, but it's still a good read. I'd keep his books around being the words of an Islamic reformist. The goals of CEMB members (most of them) and the Islamic reformists are one and the same in a lot of ways.

From what I remember, his reasons for becoming muslim sounded more emotionally charged rather than grounded in so philosophical justification. I remember speaking to a fairly well known and well respected member of the "traditional" muslim community and he said that Mr Lang's ideas were very far from the orthodox understanding. At the time I was fairly deeply engrossed in traditional islam.

Yeah that's the same understanding I gathered from watching his lectures and his interviews.

Here is a popular interview of him done by The Deen Show.

Sorry I kind of condensed all of the quotations hope you don't mind :p

    Quote
"May I ask what motivated you to become a Muslim?
    What were the selling points?"

"lol I should probably have seen that coming Tongue What made you convert to Islam?"

"I too want to know, as I'm sure many others do."

"I'm interested to know what steps you took from being an atheist to becoming a muslim? I think there are some steps inbetween these two ends of the spectrum. Please enlighten us?"

"Welcome Mike! Atheist to Muslim? You have to tell us how? Huh?"

I am more than happy to go into it into more detail, would you want me to do it here or at another area? Sorry I haven't gotten round to posting anywhere else yet! I will do >.>

As you might have guessed or assumed, the "God" Issue was probably the largest confrontation I had to address in my conversion. This was followed close behind by my love of pork (which I still miss :( :p).

"I remember you Mikebloke, good to hear from you again. I used to like your sensible posts on MPAC, though that site has gone completely mad recently, and anti-semetic. As someone who made the opposite journey to you, I would be interested to hear about what attracted you to Islam. And what keeps you in it - if that is a topic you are happy to discuss. "

    "Hi Mikebloke,

Welcome to the forum. I'm Softly Spoken / Dr Diavolo on MPACUK. Looking forward to some interesting discussions.

To other CEMB forum members, Mike is a very intelligent, politically astute Muslim with wisdom beyond his years. I hope everyone on the forum will extend him due courtesy."

Thank you both for your support :p I hope my posts haven't slipped since my conversion! I want to believe I converted with a clear head, and would be ashamed if its clouded since. On the issue of Anti-Semitism, I have stepped in a few times on the forum in particular to ensure anti-Semites and other racists were quickly banned. It is a open forum, and the website uses articles from other places so is subjected to grey area stances where you do wonder whether conflict against Israel leaks into racism against Jews. Again, I hope my commitment against racist thugs hasn't dulled regardless of who it is and who its against.

    "Welcome, Mike!

Result of spiritual drought experienced in early life, and with BNP, I suppose? "

I guess you got me! :p

"I looked around that forum for it, but I couldn't find the thread you were talking about. Would you be so kind as to provide a link? Thanks."

If your referring to the MPAC one, you can find it here:

(whoops, I can't seem to post links, its in "tea room" named Question for Softly Spoken)

If your referring to EDL, then I can't help. I've been IP Banned, which means I'd have to goto the trouble of resetting my router. What I experienced there was a mix of open posts and PM's, which I can't get to now. Unfortunately, while banned members don't automatically have their posts deleted, the name of the poster does disappear.

"Hello mike, from the pan into the fire? from atheism BNP into islam? where you trying to atone for your hatred to 'asians'? Smiley"

I had a moment in-between, I reformed my racism before seeing Islam, over a coloured girl I fancied over the internet and didn't realise what her background was no less! :p I know its crude, ugly and stupid, but meeting her did the job and is a big moment in my life. After we split up I started hanging with a different crowd, and this opened me up to religion. My racism stopped due to the opposite sex, but my faith wasn't, if you get what I mean.

I think it would be a good idea if you started a thread on the subject in the Ex Muslim Blogs and Bios section.  Most threads in there are stories of how muslims left Islam for atheism/agnosticism, and there are also a few threads detailing how and why people left Hinduism, Judaism, etc.

It would be interesting, and I spose only fair too, to hear the other side of the story.
