    Do humans ritualise security?

I present an obvious example. Humanity is prone to celebrate the first step. Be it the first day of life, first kiss, first car, first wedding night etc.
Now, rational minded as we are, the question arises: why do we celebrate the first instance and not the best instance? Why celebrate birthday and not bestday? Surely, the very nature of celebration demands it.
Ofcourse, the first step is the foundation, the zero point, it is feet firmly on the ground. It is the position of greatest safety and it is therefore, the ultimate symbol of security.
How curious then that humanity manufactures for itself a celebration of the symbol of security. Ritually.

Ofcourse, all beginning should be celebrated spontaneously.
My contention is, if we are to manufacture a periodic celebration, why celebrate the first and not the best?

Not beginning, but celebration should celebrated again and again.

    Ambiguous undulations as they sink,
Downward to darkness, on extended wings. - Stevens

I remember when each of my 4 kids took their first steps and what made me so happy was it's significance not the actual wobbly steps. In other words I was celebrating the fact that my child was growing up and completing one stage on the road to living a full and happy life.
