    Quote from: Manat
Wajib is a word that means like, necessary.  It is a way for the scholars to make something mandatory on the people that were not made mandatory on them by the quran and sunnah.  In Islam they say only allah and his messenger can declare that something is definitively required (fard) or haram (forbidden), but then the scholar-gods find their way around this with the category of makruh (detestable) and wajib.

There is no difference between wajib and fard.

For those who understand, no explanation is necessary. For those who refuse to understand, no explanation is possible.

Manat mentioned one was required, the other was necessary - its a subtle difference which means fard is obligatory, wajib is something you ought to do

Only Hanafi's differentiate between the two. Other than that, they are the same thing.

What are you agnostic about, Islam or God?  just wondering if you are still unsure about the claims of islam, and if so, what it is that makes you still believe it might be true?

    God.

Likely, as if I'm not mistaken, you're of Pakistani origin.

OK.  I'll be sure to mention that to my non Hanafi shaykhs the next time I see them.

Eteraz is an interesting fella. ... His memoir got good reviews, I may read it.

I read it when it came out. It's okay.  The first half is better than the latter half and he leaves out a lot of years.  I heard that he's working on another one detailing the years he was an apostate and how he became Resident snarky Muslim poster boy.

The problem I have with MMK is that no will ever take him seriously until he engages with the Muslim tradition to back up his position - but he would prefer being 'in your face' and 'hardcore'.

Fuck the Muslim tradition.  For real.  Saying that anyone has to engage in it (other than to tell it to fuck off) is legitimizing it (or reinforcing its claims of legitimacy), but that's just my opinion.  Any form of liberalized Islam requires one to be an intellectual jack off, but then again, just believing in that fucking religion or any of them requires intellectual fapping, so I don't know why progs get a rougher time for it.
