    So my family received an invitation to a function, and just after my dads name it said: "ESQ & Family" just wondering if anyone knew what it meant. Huh?

    well "ESQ" is abbreviated for many things., But if it is to head of family means

    "Esquire" literal meaning "shield-bearer" (for a knight),  etc..etc., Also it is used for a person who is a retired judge..

    Yeah that makes more, sense. I asked my dad he said its just to denote a social status.
