  • Is there any point?
     OP - March 10, 2010, 02:23 PM

I started my video channel for people like myself a few years ago, people who have been introduced to Islam in a bit of a mentally frail state who want to investigate the claims of miracles in the Quran.

I've spent a lot of time talking to Muslims (as you can imagine) about their beliefs.  I want to know from your point of view (ex Muslims), is it worth me doing that?  It seems like it isn't.  A guy I just blocked for being too annoying was claiming that NO Qurayza Jews were beheaded at all, that ahadith are just stories, and giving them any credit is like assuming Jesus had children because Dan Brown wrote it in a book.

I think some people are beyond help, but do you guys have any success stories?

I don't come here any more due to unfair moderation.

Nope. Islamic intellectual dishonesty is impenetrable.

Still, it's always worth doing some refutations of the b.s. miracle claims that Muslims toss around these days. I was actually thinking of starting my own YT for this purpose, as well as for addressing other theistic arguments.

I'm presently in an exchange with a Muslim who's a hafiz and is fluent in Arabic so he can't exactly be ignorant of Islam's teachings. It doesn't matter how many things I point out in the Qur'an that are simply nonsensical, he simply doesn't seem to consider that maybe the Qur'an isn't the infallible word of God that he thinks it is.

As an example, I mentioned verses 6-7 of surah at-tariq (you know, the ones that say that the male and female gametes come from the backbone/ loins and the ribs, respectively) and he just said, 'Yeah, so? That's true isn't it?'

I think that people have to start questioning it for themselves. If you can get them away from the presupposition that it's the word of God then their own common sense will do the rest. But therein lies the difficulty.

Depends how you measure success.  I think provided we can take the sting out of Islam in our own small way, then thats a success.

However in the sense that your OP shows, there are a number of people who have become apostates since I have know them, and am sure I played a small part in that.  Also there are many more who began to interpret Islam more liberally/ began to doubt Islam or have left Islam altogether since watching my videos also.

Though I am not an ex-Muslim, I have been thanked by at least four Muslims who apostatized.

The main reason you don't seem to have any success is the human ego which prevents people from accepting that they were wrong. I consider it a success if I am able to sow the seed of doubt in a believing mind. The nagging doubt won't let the person rest in peace, and the seed might come to fruition much later, but the person will be thankful to you ultimately even if he/she does not come and acknowledge your contribution.

I consider myself fortunate in that I have at least four private messages thanking me for making them drop the lies they believed in.

Islam is a funny religion which is misunderstood by its scholars and correctly understood by ordinary Muslims.
Faith is keeping your eyes shut when looking at the world, and/or keeping your eyes open only for the beauty of the world.
