    Just curious...

how does whatever Christians believe affect or prove/disprove anything about Islam? We seem to have ended up saying, well, that Mary-Miriam in  thing is strange, but because it was Christians who first pointed it out, it can be discredited by pointng at something about Christianity...

Did anyone here ever try to use atheists to prop up Mohammed? The arguement could go like this: Mohammed may havge killed some people but atheists, like Stalin, killed probably more. There fore Islam is true and atheism is false.

Surely we can all agree you ridiculous this argument is.

What the discussion here has shown here rather clearly is the reason why despite of the rather obvious mistakes in the quran (this is only one of a great many...) Muslims hold on to Islam:

If the problem cannot be explained away with some mental contortions, then the next step is to to find similar problems elsewhere, as that would in any way help to justify Islam. Bringing in irrelevant issues like the person mentioning the problem is a Christian, a Hindu or an atheist,  is no more than a diversion tactic to stop people looking Islam.

    It'slike this:

Mother: "I have had a letter from schoolto say that you do not do your homework"
Son: "Mom, I told you last week that I really need new trainers, and you STILL have not taken me to the shop. And nowyou talk to me about homework, as if you always did everything you should..."

Why is it more important for some what we are than what we say?

It has no effect on me. I understand what you are trying to say, but it won't work.

It's not a trick, Isabel. It's a simple question: Why do you expect Muslims to follow reason when applied to their faith - but you don't follow reason when applied to your faith?

If you said "I don't want to answer that question" - I can understand that.

But you said "It won't work on me" - now this I don't understand.

Do you think I'm trying to trick you in some way?

    What's the trick I'm playing?

    I don't get it?

It was the wording of her answer that puzzled me. She's said it a couple of time now. I'm curious to know what she means.

Like I say if she came straight out - as she has on occasion - saying: "I don't want to answer that." - then I can understand.

But I'm genuinely curious as to what she means by "This won't work on me" - what won't work? Asking a simple question?  Huh?

I'm guessing that through some magical slight of hand you will get her to criticize her own religion, and worse, to you. An atheist. It won't work on her, she is too smart.

It's funny because a part of her is going I better not walk down this road lest I come to the "wrong" part of town. You know? Infidel Avenue. Where all the sleazy atheists and rotten agnostics hang out suckling on the teat of Dawkins and Dennet. *puts on Cookie Monster voice* Yum Yum atheist milk (and cookies!) gooood.

    Maybe I misunderstood you.

I get the impression you are somewhat biased against religion and a belief in a deity.

Look I have my own reasons to believe there is some validity in Christianity ( I am not referring to hell by the way ) and a belief in God.

I know you are going to find this hard to believe but some of my beliefs on Christianity and the existence are based on reason.

Well I'm an Atheist so of course I am coming from a certain perspective (nothing secret about it) - just as you are coming from your perspective - but I don't have a problem with that.

I was just curious by the way you said "It won't work on me" - still don't know what you mean.

But just to let you know - I have nothing against anyone of faith personally - just like to debate and discuss - and this is a discussion forum you know Wink

Any way peace and may the love of Jesus be with you  grin12
