    I remember when we didn't have this fancy shmancy HD stuff. Back in my day we had to do with plain old DVDs, you young 'uns don't know how good you have it. Old geezer

    I'll bear that in mind, but I've already got a TV and I'm sure it's fine. It's just that I've never connected a TV up before and we have just moved into a new flat. There's wires sticking out of the wall - just assuming those are linked up to the Satellite dish/terrestrial antenna outside  Huh? - but they don't seem to work. Tried getting in touch with the landlord to ask him what these wires sticking out of the wall are for and whether they're supposed to be connected to my TV, but can't get through to him.

    Gonna go outside now and walk around the house to see if I can even see a dish/antenna.

    Yeah, even DVDs are starting to get outdated because I just watch shit off my harddrive and have my xbox connected to my pc, so I can just download stuff  on my main computer and watch it instantly on my big screen with my xbox.

    and those big looking disks


    I still have vhs and disks like that and a disk player Cheesy

    If you have a satellite dish you can get freesat automatically. I dunno if I have a dish, gonna go check to see if I can see one now. It's freeview that's had to make itself available throughout the country, but that's available in our area, yes.

    Yup. IMO, that's pretty much the best way to go about it. Most of the newer TVs and computers are instantly compatible via USB, so you don't have to buy a special cable (which are almost impossible to find now) or do the X-Box rig. I'm sure it will be completely standard within 10 years or so and DVDs as common a format as VHS are today.

Also, if you're in a flat then check how the incoming feed is getting to you - you may find they're using cheap DA's, long cable runs, etc. Ask neighbours if they've had any issues (especially with Freesat, since it's new and probably wouldn't have been tested when the shared installation was deployed), if you can prove that anyone else in the block has issues then you can ask the management company to sort it out.

    Don't worry about the postcode too much, just give it one that it will accept which is geographically close to you. It's generally used for guide data for regional channels.

    If there's a threaded F-type connector on the wall which was previously used to feed a VM (Cable) box, then you won't have any joy using it to feed your Freesat tuner, I'm afraid. You will need to install your own dish if you want to get Freesat, if there's not one there already. Check that there isn't an old coaxial socket somewhere which would have been used for analog terrestrial - it should still be valid for digital terrestrial (Freeview) - at a pinch.
