Peoples History Of The United States -Howard Zinn.

I find the book fascinating. For anyone that has an interest in US history relating to class war, racism, slavery and the flaws of Capitalist system,This book is a great place to start.

The book actually belongs to the landlord's daughter, she moved out, and he's not around (he sub-let all three rooms) so I picked it from the shelf to read. I never knew it was a classic novel.

Thomas More's Magician: A Novel Account of Utopia in Mexico

    Quote
In 1532, eleven years after the Spanish conquest, Mexico is in crisis. As the conquistadors discover an earthly paradise, its peoples and their Gods are being destroyed. This is a time of greed, uncertainty—and idealism. Despairing of his surroundings, Vasco de Quiroga, a new member of the Spanish ruling council, forges a commune on Mexico City's outskirts, using Thomas More's book, Utopia, as his blueprint. As Toby Green explores Quiroga’s story, he begins to sense an eerie resonance between Quiroga’s age and our own. With vivid reconstructions of 16th-century Spain and Mexico, the narrative becomes an account not only of Quiroga, but also of Utopia as both an idea and a literary form.

    Lolita - Vladmir Nabokov

I have to drive quite a bit at my work so I try to use the time for good and listen to audiobooks when doing that. I got this as read by Jeremy Irons, magnificent voice for the book. While the book was good, what really enchanted me was driving alone all over (insert country here) while listening to Jeremy Irons describing driving all over America and staying in motels and visiting these insignificant places.

Rather disjointed in places, extremely surreal (as in properly surreal) in others, but a rather fabulous book so far!

I couldn't get though this book.  I thought it was going to be an historical account but it was more of a creative retelling along with a road trip story of the author. That would be ok but the author wasn't very good at recreating dialog and it seem stilted and unreal so I had to put it down about a third of the way though.

Demanding the Impossible: A History of Anarchism

    Quote
Lively and authoritative, this study of a widely misunderstood subject skillfully navigates the rough waters of anarchistic concepts—from Taoism to Situationism, ranters to punk rockers, individualists to communists, and anarcho-syndicalists to anarcha-feminists. Exploring key anarchist ideas of society and the state, freedom and equality, authority and power, the record investigates the successes and failures of anarchist movements throughout the world. Presenting a balanced and critical survey, the detailed document covers not only classic anarchist thinkers—such as Godwin, Proudhon, Bakunin, Kropotkin, Reclus, and Emma Goldman—but also other libertarian figures, such as Nietzsche, Camus, Gandhi, Foucault, and Chomsky. Essential reading for anyone wishing to understand what anarchists stand for and what they have achieved, this fascinating account also includes an epilogue that examines the most recent developments, including postanarchism and anarcho-primitivism as well as the anarchist contributions to the peace, green, and global justice movements of the 21st century.

So some one sent me this video  and argued me to watch that video carefully and read that book of John William Draper "History of the intellectual development of Europe. "

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxxicbATevA

That Azizi shows  you see after a 2mts in that video  are very popular in Pakistan .. That show is supposed to be  similar to that The Daily Show of Jon Stewart  in US of A..  So  in the above video., that guy is talking about a guy  John William Draper and his book  "History of the intellectual development of Europe._By John William Draper"

The host of the show says in that show.,  William Draper  book says    'How great Islam was and its contribution to the " intellectual development of Europe. was" ..

And that is the reason I downloaded that book..  It is funny to read the book  and see how that TV show guy completely distorted what is there in that book.  If William Draper was alive in Land of pure.. " His head would have been hung on a pole for Blasphemy" for writing that book....

one can download that book freely from here

I don't know what to make of The Righteous Mind, it seems all too oversimplified.

"The Love Queen of Malabar"  by Merrily Weisbord

Very fascinating book but Expensive  and funny book ..lol..

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V51Xahm0GU0

    Merrily Weisbord  speaks..

That book apparently is life story of a hindu pagan lady from India..Miss Kamala Das..

    Quote
“Islam is the religion of love,” I read Kamala saying. “Hindus have abused and hurt me. They have often tried to scandalize me. I want to love and be loved.” She tells an interviewer she is taking Krishna from the Guruvayur temple, naming him Mohammed, and making him a prophet. “If you go to Guruvayur, you will not see Krishna there. He is with me.”

“But you’re so fond of Krishna. How could you abandon him?” asks the astonished journalist, aware, as is everyone in Kerala, that Guruvayur is a Krishna temple and also the temple of Kamala’s ancestresses.

“I haven’t abandoned him. He’s still with me, he’s in my house.”

“How can he be in a Muslim house?”

“I’ve just had to rename him Mohammed,” she says, confounding conventional religious logic, or asserting one more ecumenical. “My grandmother told me as a child I was married to Krishna. I have seen Krishna, played with him and eaten with him. I love Krishna, and that love will never die. The essence of Krishna is within me, it’s only that the name has changed.”

Very interesting way of putting Islam..
