The average "Hindu" is anything but Hindu. The basic thing about the average "Hindu" is; they would have no objection to worshiping a deity presented by the Hindu scriptures and are Indian/Nepalese by descent.

The average Muslim  knows more about his religion that the average Hindu does. The life and activities of the average Hindu outside of India or Nepal is very much less constrained by his religion than that ones belonging to those possibly any other religion.

Who is a Hindu? Does wearing a dot on the forehead make a person Hindu? Does claiming ancestry from the Indian subcontinent yet not belonging to Christianity, Islam, Sikhism or Buddhism make you a Hindu? Does eating with your hand, and slurping the food that you eat and licking gravy off your hand and cleaning shit with the other hand make you a Hindu? Does taking long walks on the seaside on a night when theres a bright silvery moon shining across a dark deep blue sky make you a Hindu? Is the pretty brown girl two blocks across your place whom you wanna fuck real bad a Hindu? If I close my eyes do a little jiggy and spin around, then tap myself on the head and then open my eyes would I be a Hindu? I'm hungry, my food is cold in the fridge, I'm making estimates its Hindu?....  What the fuck is Hindu?

Hindus used to throw babies in the air, when they were from a 50ft tower.

long time no see.,  how are you doing King Koopa?? I haven't read you for a long time., **"hypocritefier**  lol..  hypocrucifier is all right.,  Every one must realize that going back in time  All religions have their  origins   in paganism and  ritualism. Abrahamic religions are no exception to that rule except they filtered their rituals and added rules to rituals so they don't expand exponentially with time.,  And hindus with their freedom from rules of religion, they have lot more rituals than any other religion also they have lot more books on religion.  But one must realize that freedom they have is the key for them as it allows criticism and it is easy to convince them about the evils in  religions and rituals.  The  Key is education.. education & education... + Freedom, freedom and freedom to criticize..

Do not let silence become your legacy.. Question everything

Afro Yes sir! You have got it right! The ultimate freedom you have is in declaring that you believe a part of it,most of it,or just this particular part or nothing at all and not being adversely affected by it![You won't be killed for your religious views that's for sure!] But best of all, as far as religion goes, people mind their own bloody business, you have a plethora of choices as far as crazy rituals are concerned, but nothing that you see can be said to be typical of the religion because there's a mind boggling diversity of sub-cultures which absolutely zaps a Western mind that is punch drunk on monotheism and can't see  anything beyond it.
Like you said there's always that room for improvement because a lot of people tend to prefer direct connection with reality rather than a direct connection with an elusive GOD,though they pay a lot of lip service to him.

baby throwing muslims.. pierced hindus... and lets not forget Abraham was
ready to kill his child for god too.  Xianity, judaism is RICHLY engrossed in
pagan practices STILL TODAY (easter bunnies, eggs, chickens; yule logs,
silver and gold adorned xmas trees; etc.. are sooooooo pagan its silly!)

Native Americans do the sundance ceremony, a four day ritual that hilights
piercingsfor the sundancers in the back, chest, and for women, on their arms, and also "flesh
offerings" from the supporters of the ceremony, where they cut off bits of flesh
from the arms, then wrap them and tie them to a bush, which is then
    tied to the sundance tree.

When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.
