No, no. Don't stand around handing these out in person. I wouldn't do that either. Just make a bunch of copies and leave them in a public place Smiley

Good luck with that. I wouldn't walk up to a mosque carrying a bunch of those Grin

Nicely done! The only thing I'd say is it seems slightly confrontational ("Questions for Muslims"), which could immediately put a lot of people (even waverers) into a defensive frame of mind. I can't think of anything that really avoids that though. Maybe something like "Questions about Islam", or "Questions from ex-Muslims" would be less likely to be taken antagonistically.

Maybe there could be leaflets in other styles too to appeal to people at different stages. E.g. one with brief personal testemonies or one with a sarcastic style for those who just need a hand to overcome fear of questioning. It could start gently e.g. In the name of Allah, the invisible, the incomprehensible. Praise be to Him who created a clear book in which there is no doubt, which says that a man reached the setting place of the sun and found it setting in a muddy spring... OK, maybe not quite like that Tongue

Thanks for the suggestions, nj7. "Questions for Muslims" doesn't sound confrontational at all to me, although you never know how Muslims will take it Roll Eyes On the other hand, I think having the word "ex-Muslims" in the title on the front page would be off-putting, and I know some Muslims who wouldn't even touch it. But your idea of using "Questions about Islam" sounds good, so here's one with the modified title Smiley

Great, thanks Afro I think that might work better for some people. I guess confrontational was the wrong word. Basically my thought was that a good vibe would be that we're just sharing these questions with you, and subconciously the reader might feel more open to moving towards a questioning frame of mind. It's not addressed to them personally, so it doesn't feel so much like their ego is threatened if they can't think of good answers. If it feels to the reader more like they are being addressed personally ("Questions for Muslims"), they're more likely to have a defensive, answer-no-matter-what frame of mind and ego comes into play.

Anyways, I hope people are careful with which printers they go to! Smiley

An idea I had was to put a bunch into a plastic sheet protector, and then pin the sheet protector to a bulletin board. Would be real quick-like. Walk up, pin, walk away. cool2

"you can get the terrorist out of Islam, but not out of the person"

    Good work Luthiel.

I think the vocabulary is a little too heavy for a general audience in this question:

    Why does the human
body look suspiciously like it was the result of a
long, cumulative process of evolution resulting in
imperfections and vestigial organs and genes, and
not the result of the instant and perfectly planned
    creation of Adam and Eve?

Other than that, and my desire to see red instead of green as the colours, it's a great job.   Tongue

I agree, that question reads a little heavy, but it is straight from the video. And there are plenty of other simpler questions so I don't think it will detract too much.

Anyway, here are some red versions just for you Wink

well there are massive muslim forums as well, if someone goes on them and posts a link to CEMB, starting a massive thread on let's say gawaher, just posting a link to CEMB and manifesto of CEMB as a new thread, that might bring in some Muslims here to engage with

You cannot post links on gawaher until you have posted 50 threads there. I think the purpose of that rule is to discourage exactly the sort of thing you are trying to do.

But at any rate, I think that the target audience is totally wrong. The kind of Muslims who spend their free time on a Muslim forum are not the kind of people that are susceptible to "open-mindedness", they are mainly die-hards that will not hear reasoned arguments.

You need to focus on a different target audience, the kind of people that are not really that interested in religion, don't know much about it and only say they are "Muslim" to please their parents. Those are the kind of people that would more susceptible to the message.

So a better place to post would be an Iraqi forum about football or a Pakistani forum about cricket, these kinds of forums often have sections for "off topic" threads.

Well, maybe that would be a bit heavy for a sports related forum, but maybe a politics forum would be a good start....

I think if we can identify 50 forums online to post this little pdf of yours or a link to the CEMB youtube vidoes then that is a good start. 50 forums may seem like a lot but it is a drop in the bucket compared to the ammount of content out there online.

If just 10 members of the forum were to identify 5 forums each to post in then that would already be 50 forums. Of course if some of those forums are in other languages then either the pdf or the youtube videos will require translation.

In terms of the materials to link to, I have these thoughts:

The PDF is good, but I feel some of Hassan's youtube videos are more appealing in that they are multi-media and have more punch to them.

But even Hassan's videos are not perfect. I have noticed a general trend in those videos in that they start of slow but then get better, the problem is that internet users usually want instant gratification and will move on to the next link the very second they feel something is boring them. I think some of the videos could do with being a little shorter.

I don't mean to be over-critical, the videos are great when the target audience is smart, highly educated, and open-minded people with a strong interest in the subject matter, but that is quite a narrow target audience isn't it?

If we can learn anything from the whole TONY 2012 campaign and how that thing went so viral. It is that the general public wants something that is short and very simple.

    What are other people's thoughts?

Do airplane leaflet drops over heavily populated Muslim areas, especially when Juma'a is on!!! The area I'm in doesn't have many, so there wouldn't be much point, but in the area I was in before (back when I was one too) was crawling with Muslims and a leaflet drop there would blow it out of the water.

Please, please can I be the pilot (don't mind my lack of flying skills)?  grin12 oh to see the faces!  dance

On a more serious note, sorry, Embarrassed I don't got anything really helpful to add, but if I think of something will post it.
