    I wouldn't agree with that entirely as rapists are the result of something which in the end cause rape, they are not a cause in and of themselves. They are defined as rapists after the act, before the act other factors influence them to do the act, some of which may be attitudes conveyed in the communities of some minorities as well as in majority communities.

    ^Yes, and murders are the cause of murder. That doesn't really solve anything does it?

    I think a better question would be: what are the underlying motives and causal factors of rape? Is it power over the victim, sexual gratification, etc. I don't think it's really a discussion for this thread.

    Yes it does, if we can identify what the motives are behind sexual assault and/or rape, we can more efficiently tackle the issue. Fixing society/social norms is a far better method than harsher punishments for the reduction in any crime. If you just hang all rapists, there may be a small decrease in rape cases due to fear, but the issue will remain, especially in countries where victims are forced to remain silent.

    I don't want to put words in your mouth, as that would be wrong, so I'm curious. What do you suggest be done to decrease rape, and what should the punishment be for rapists?


    If you want, I would suggest split this into a new thread, as this is not the right place for it...
