'I need Colonialism because... Human sacrifice shouldn't be used to please the gods' could have been read as an ironic musing, but something about the content of the other images suggested otherwise. Is human sacrifice as committed in the name of religion really any better than the religiously-sanctioned enslaving and pillage of distant lands in the name of some empire?
I claim no competence in Latin American history, but I was under the impression that the Spanish conquest of Latin America - through disease, war and the sustained effects of forced labour - resulted in the catastrophic decline of local population numbers, far beyond that sustainable by any deliberate programme of human sacrifice. Why should colonialism be let off the hook for its effects, deliberate or not?
