I would love to read it when it gets done. If it helps, when I am done with my projects, maybe you could record it and I will transcribe it?

Aw, you are sweet. But I have barely started. I am just writing down stories from squatting, so far. I think I did some from elementary school. It is not coming out linear, and I seem barely able to remember. Which is a huge 180 from how it was six years ago, when I ran through everything linear and clearly in a month.

Just keep on writing and you can put them in order when it's all done. I know some things are hard to remember. Same for me.

Also, another reply to yeez. Without the past, we would not be who we are today. It is important to never forget it and to reflect on it.

Writing/blogging is very hard. It's about getting all those ideas and assembling them in the correct order. My head is a mess with so many colliding concepts/narratives/voices - it's crazy in there. DO NOT ENTER. That's why I think short pieces of humour are the ebst outlet.

How do you remember in such detail?  my memory is so crap. Do you ever get angry revisiting those kinds of memories?

Agreed. Humor is always be a nice departure.

I have always had a good memory and these things in the past I have not discussed in detail with anyone before. I kept it inside and for years it would haunt me. These days, some things  still get me angry while others do not. Just a matter of having dealt with it or not.

I agree with moving-pher (did you get it?)  Tongue

Humour is the best way to deal with everything. You can never cover up the scars or stitches but you can sure as hell point and laught at them 'till the pain dissipates.

How do you remember in such detail?  my memory is so crap. Do you ever get angry revisiting those kinds of memories?

I remember the general things - everyone does - but I read somewhere that we make up the details sometimes. We hold on to an image, shape, colour, emotion and work from there. It's okay to make some things. A little bit of detail here and there is important. I can remember feelings from a long time ago. I guess it depends whether you're a sensitive soul or not.

Ah my young dear padawan. Have you forgotten my lesson that I aught you that other day?

For myself, it began as bits that created themselves in my head and would not get out until I wrote them down. Sometimes I get out a good response, but mostly it is things that bother me, as if I were possessed.
My head is a mess. Organization is not my friend. I am only organized when I have free time.
The only time I have full humour in my writing is when I am arguing with Muslims. That is a sarcastic sort and not very nice, so I try to control it.

Listen to this while you read the text below:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILv1jI31j50

On the streets of Riyadh...Jinn rule supreme. One day, a unsuspecting lowly woman will find herself knee deep in this dark secret world of the nation's capital...only to find herself possessed by the very things that she has come to hunt. Hunted by her colleagues and abandoned by family, she turns her gaze toward the pride of the infidel nations, science. Will she risk becoming a mulhad to rid herself of the demons that dwell within? What will she do when an entire nation turns against her? Moreover, what will she do when she unwittingly uncovers the truth of her possession? As the evil of the Jinn slowly exploit the darkness within her heart, she will uncover the true nature of women that religion has been trying to protect the world from for eons. But, will she be too far gone by then to remember how to repent?

I can't imagine how that must have felt growing up with a father like that. I don't know if this is too personal of a question to ask, ignore it if it is lol, but do you think that that was just him dispensing tough love or did he say those things without caring about how his words made you feel?

Sorry all. I have been struck down by the period for a few days so I have been not eating a lot and resting. Eating just made the pain worse. It's better now.

That might contribute to what I felt so old when I reached 23.

Good question. I think it's a combination of both. Sometimes, he had his heart in the right place, but he went about it the same way that he was raised to do it. The society that he grew up in did not contradict what he learned at home from example and neither did his religion.

Just finished reading it. I'm interested to learn more about your father and your mother's relationship, so I can't wait for more updates. Are they still married? Also, definitely empathize with you on having to excuse yourself out of dance. I only went to public school up to fourth grade, but I still remember every time I had to go to my teachers and tell them that I couldn't do something because of "my religion". It's sad when you have to miss out on so many fun activities just because a book says so.

No longer married legally or Islamicaly. The latter is a more recent thing that happened late last year.

Yeah, that trend just kept on perpetuating. It's so damned suffocating.
