Have you maybe considered meditating as a replacement for that feeling you used to get in ramadan?  it's supposed to be extremely beneficial.

You could also fast on occasion for your own pleasure, using it as a chance to get in touch with your own 'spirituality'.  I use quote tags only because some people take issue with the term spiritual, whereas I see it as pertaining to my inner sense of myself and my wellbeing.

    Might be worth the considering.

I don't know if anyone can relate to this?

I do relate as it happens, I just believe as I have said, that my feelings of contentment arose from my state of hunger and of course the ritual of it all, which meditation offers me now.

On ramadan I was holier than holy, I was so connected that I even cried with spiritual emotion once, as I had prayed quite substantially and was moved by a particular passage in the Quran as I read it.  Don't ask me which one now though lol I can't for the life of me remember which one it was.

I felt so muslim, and good.

I've been out of Islam for almost a decade now though, so I have come to realise I achieve those feelings in other ways too.

Me, too, normally. But by midday, that feeling gave way to fatigue, and after that came the high. Maybe eight hours on empty, I would get it.

Kellogg's chocolate breakfast shakes, in your purse or bag. Anyone asks, it is for ¨when you are caught in traffic during Iftar, so you can still follow the Sunnah¨ If you have to, make it a small ziploc of khorma instead. If you can manage to down a few of those drinks during bathroom breaks, you will be hydrated and fed. They are a hundred ninety calories, and the way they are sealed, they don't slosh around too much in your bag. Smaller version? Juiceboxes of Yoohoo. Not as nutritious, but still caloric. Again, pretty noiseless. Good luck, I feel your pain.

My mother isn't fasting this year because she has "colon problems" and it's "too much of a mental distress" despite the fact she had the same problems last year.  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Cheesy

No they are not Wise. BFs parents, friends and Pakistani TV were going on about going to somewhere where daylength is shorter. Pakistani TV women were focusing on styling headscarves instead of make-up as they usually do, and Quatari woman at the bus stop was talking to her colleague talking about taking all her leave and going back to Qatar as the days are shorter.

Still, shows how ridiculous the whole thing is; a 12 hour difference in the length of time different people 'have' to fast for is daft!

Bad fasting time, great social services to help you get away from zealous Muslim family.

Finland have had tartar Muslims north of the polar circle for 200 years. Unless you are Hanbali it is perfectly halal to chose either the closest Muslim country (Turkey for historical reasons) or Mekka.

Remember, once uoon a time what mattered in Islam was intent. Not rituals.

Same thing for mourning hmm. We recently had a relative pass away about a month ago and my mother is absolutely positive that it isn't sufficient to not cry. She believes that the only way to show her love and sorrow is to cry and cry and cry because otherwise it's "rude".
What an idiot. I've tried to explain to her time and time that she can mourn whatever way she can but she feels it's not right to be "moderate".

Me: because I don't want to

    Bro: that's not good enough

Me: It's good enough for me

    *walk away*

Never mind the fasting the temporary "piety" of those who aren't religious for the rest of the year is the worst part of Ramadan. There's going to be so many difficult conversations this month. So many religious knob heads who feel the need to police everyone around them.

I read somewhere that at the US Thule Air Base they put the Muslim servicemen F/M on a B-52 for prolonged duty deep south over the Atlantic so they don't starve to death Cheesy

The Finnish tartars have the reasonable approach though.
