Oh LOL nice!!! Tongue This thread is a good idea Tongue

Not just cuz I'm a girl. My two older brothers are both in uni and they didn't leave either.

And I would live like SIX HOURS AWAY *gulp* (it's scary, I didn't want to go that far), on the university's campus. They're so nice, they're paying for everything. Tongue

And the hijab. I actually love hijab, and I chose to wear it, but now I feel like a hypocrite in it :/ and I feel like it's gonna limit my ability to 'reinvent' myself (if that makes sense), so I have to tell them that I don't want to wear it anymore. My dad won't care, he discouraged me from wearing it to begin with. But my mum might get bitter and stuff... :/ Not sure how to approach it really...

As for completely OK with it, no they are NOT. My mum is bitter (though she tries not to be), and my dad said he's disappointed that I'm leaving my mum. :/ So..yeah. :/ But they're being understanding. The worst thing to have done (in my case) would have been to say that I want independence. That would have implied that I disliked living with them. So I focussed on other stuff, like the excellence of the education, and how living on residence is a life experience that everybody recommends. I'm not sure how you could convince your parents. :/ A good way would be to focus on convincing ONE of them (your dad is probably a better idea since they tend to be the head of the household), and then your other parent might agree.

That's what happened in my case anyway.

Oh wow. Maybe you ought to educate your mum on, um, the fact that wearing a hijab should be a personal expression of piety? Because not wearing a hijab certainly does not make a person a kaffir. Might be a good idea to quote scholars on that one. That's a dangerous attitude IMO. Takfir is serious business. yes

Aww. :( I wish I could help more. :( :( Stay strong, you have to be who you are, and that may involve hurting your parents at first, but I guess in the end they'll accept you for who you are. Some things are just necessary, I guess. :/

Chepea: I didn't mean shouldn't do it, I just meant you shouldn't HAVE to, if you didn't want to.

Yeah I know. My mum wouldn't force me to wear the hijab, but you know...I feel like such a bad daughter. T_T Ah well.

AW! :( But at least you've gotten permission! Must've taken some work.  Afro Good job, it's hard fighting your family.

Oh right, well, I can see how that's useful. You're gonna have to prove you're responsible eh. :/ Might wanna try learning cooking for yourself, parents go nuts if you don't feed yourself properly.

GOOD LUCK!!!!! dance we'll be in it together. grin12

I would take the 1 bed if it was me, much more comfortable I would say.. only reason im going for a studio is because thats the cheapest option

Idk, the prices aren't too different here and if I get a 1-bed I will still spend the whole day in my bedroom, may as well have a fridge nearby. Also the studios here tend to be more modern. But in the unlikely event someone comes round, I don't want them in my bedroom. _-_

Hahaha, nah I love 'em. Tongue And usually, I'm the loudest. I think the police have been called twice cuz of me when I was younger. Once apparently I was "singing" my wedding song, and the neighbours thought someone was dying so they called the cops. Seriously. :/

Good for you! Glad you got IKEA growing up.  Afro

Not my childhood, we were on the poor spectrum so no chance to go normal furniture shopping. In fact for most of my childhood we had to make do with crates for chairs, stuff from the tip to furnish our house etc... I've never been to IKEA, always wanted to go, but have never been. Don't even know where the IKEA store is where I am.
