Bad sportmanship from Brazilian fans ?

I was happy for the Brazilians when they won, but to boo the runner up after that ?.....

Boo 2: Lavillenie booed again by Olympic home crowd
    (Clicky for piccy!)
RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) -- Two days in a row, Thiago Braz da Silva was celebrated as a national hero in the Olympic Stadium. Both days, Renaud Lavillenie was booed by the home crowd.
International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach thinks enough is enough.
The IOC leader described the booing that echoed around the stands during Tuesday's medal ceremony for the pole vault as ''shocking behavior,'' saying it was ''unacceptable at the Olympics.''
It reduced Lavillenie to tears, which streamed down his face at the ceremony.
''I wish this on no one,'' he said, again shocked that thousands of people would boo him again.
Da Silva had an upset win over the defending champion late Monday, and thousands of fans kept on booing the Frenchman as he tried to reclaim the gold-medal position during the thrilling, late-night duel.
The raucous booing was meant to unsettle the non-Brazilian. It did. Lavillenie, instead of concentrating solely on his final jump, gave them the thumbs down.
Lavillenie condemned the behavior of the crowd soon after his event finished, saying nothing like it had been seen since Jesse Owens at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Hitler's propaganda games. He quickly apologized and retracted his statement, but maintained that the Brazilian fans in the stadium were disregarding the Olympic spirit.
''If this is a nation where they only want Brazil and they spit on others, then you should not organize the Olympics,'' he said in the early hours of Tuesday, comments unlikely to endear him with the host nation.
So he pretty much knew what was coming when the ceremony for the medal presentations.
''I expected some whistles, and it would have shocked me, but I didn't expect it to be so violent,'' he said.
During the medal ceremony, Da Silva raised his arms to calm the fans and applauded the silver medal of world-record holder Lavillenie, who won gold four years ago in London. Soon the tears were rolling down Lavillenie's face, and it was not because he won the silver medal.
''I held it till the moment I no longer could,'' he said.
Lavillenie was consoled later by Da Silva and pole vault great Sergei Bubka, an IOC member.
After the ceremony, the stadium announcer for the remainder of competition reminded fans for ''the utmost respect'' for all athletes.

Rio police: Ryan Lochte, U.S. swimmers lied about robbery

    SI WIRE
    Thursday August 18th, 2016
UPDATE: Video footage from the night of Ryan Lochte’s alleged robbery shows Lochte and three other American swimmers getting stopped by gas station security.

Brazilian police say Ryan Lochte and three other U.S. swimmers lied about being robbed early Sunday morning, and security footage shows the four Olympians vandalizing a gas station the night they originally claimed to have been robbed at gunpoint.

Two of the swimmers have since admitted the robbery story was a fabrication, according to the AP. Video released Thursday shows the four were stopped by gas station security, who later pointed a gun at the swimmers to make sure they would not leave before the police arrived.

Police said in a press conference Thursday the security guard who pulled the gun overreacted, but noted no one was physically harmed in the incident.

A Brazilian official told Reuters that the swimmers paid for the gas station damage in cash. The gas station owner told a local paper that Lochte and the other swimmers urinated over the station as opposed to using the bathroom and vandalized a sign in the store.

Initially, Lochte said he, Jimmy Feigen, Jack Conger and Gunnar Bentz were returning to the Olympic village in a cab when they were pulled over and robbed by men dressed as cops, but Lochte later told NBC's Matt Lauer that story wasn't exactly true. Instead, he said all four swimmers were at a gas station when they were robbed.

"They had gone to the bathroom in a gas station," Lauer said during NBC's Olympic coverage on Wednesday night, describing what Lochte told him. "They got back to the taxi, and when they told the taxi driver to go, he didn't move. They said, 'let's go' again, 'we've got to get out of here,' and again the taxi driver didn't move. And that's when he says two men approached the car with guns and badges."

The video shows Lochte and simmers being asked to exit their cab by security, presumably after they had vandalized the gas station.

A Brazilian judge ordered two Conger and Bentz not to leave the country while they investigated the claims, even though Lochte left the country before that order was issued.

U.S. Olympic Committee spokesman Patrick Sandusky confirmed that Conger and Bentz were removed from their flight on Wednesday night when they attempted to leave for the United States.

Sandusky also said on Thursday that Bentz, Conger, and Feigen were cooperating with authorities and are "represented by counsel and being appropriately supported by the USOC and the U.S. Consulate in Rio."

The IOC released a statement Thursday.

What the US swimmers did is just horrible and so stupid. Why did they do that? They are destroying the reputation of Brazil just out of fun.

I wished the Brazilian police had reacted a bit harder and arrested them for their false statement against the police.

    Kudos to her ! Afro

Apparently she was good at various sports, but settled on fencing as that uniform was the only one conservative enough, that her parents would allow her to take part in as a muslim girl.
