If he is not laic then he has nothing to worry about since my vitriol is only directed at the laic who deny their own religion yet prance around advertising and showering praises at everyone's else's religion.

Its human nature, Baal.  The grass always looks greener from a distance, and religions always look more attractive when you haven't spent your life having to live under their rules.

Agreed. And the laic have a solution for this: No one is supposed to discuss or talk about religion socially as well as a complete separation of government and education and religion.

Yet, in actuality, because the grass always look greener and because of human nature and such, we have people who profess to be laic yet will go hardest on their own, just as they hop over to a perceived greener pasture.

Not to mention, the followers of a laic system, are getting taken for a ride, when a large segment of their society, is immigrated into their midst and they do not give a rat's ass about laicity.

Here is some problems with Laicism as it is being practiced:

Since the government has no place in the life of the individual. The French government is being criticized whenever it opposes hijab wearing in schools. Whenever it opposes forced marriages (interfering with religious customs). When it tries to prevent muslims from praying in the streets. Whenever it opposes domestic abuse (interfering with muslims).

Somehow young muslims got it into their heads that islam and muslims is one and the same. (How could this have happened?!?)

Second French had been told that Laicism is implemented in order to 'preserve' freedom of expression. The French equate laicism with Freedom of expression even though logically One does not lead to the other.

Third and most importantly, laicism is an internal defense mechanism. It was organically grown to prevent the society from stagnating from within. To prevent an internal doctrine (threat) from becoming too strong. As it stands, laicity had not been adapted to deal well with external threats.

Now the French government had become so criticized for breaking its own laicity. That little young north african sh1t disturbers now feel entitled to attack their their government when it arrests a teen-aged car thief. They feel so self-justified that they will go on rioting and rampaging and destroying cars, businesses and properties. Because somehow, the media around them, told them that the government has no business interfering with islam and that islam and muslims is one and the same.

If you want to be laic, then be laic. Just do not be a half-assed laic and only turn on yourself, use the full range of options given to you by laicism. Or if you can not adapt your laicism to an external threat, then stop being laic for now. It is not what your country requires from you at the moment.

Your general point makes sense, but when you get into details, like the part I've quoted above, it makes less sense.

I've lived in France, and know full well that the French government, along with the majority of French people, couldn't give even half a damn if they're criticised for any of the above.  Secularism is deeply ingrained in their culture and permeates both left and right of politics.  The muslim youths of the banlieues can riot and scream all they like, it won't reverse the hijab ban, and it won't change the laws against domestic violence.  France, while we're on the subject, was the first country in Europe to pass a specific law against FGM.  That won't be reversed either.

Wrt the hijab ban, around the time it was being discussed, the majority of French muslim women polled agreed with the ban - those polls also coincide with my personal experience of muslims living in France, both male and female, and regardless of what nationality they were, (most were Moroccan).

Secularism has permeated the culture of many French muslims too.

Westerners who pride themselves on being logical in their critical analysis of Christianity, and then fall hook, line and sinker for any old "exotic"  horseshite like Feng Shui, are laughable. But elevating that tendency to some kind of an international problem, or threat to civilisation, is getting it out of perspective.

Baal, there is no system of "official warnings" on this forum.  If you get warned at all, instead of smited or even threatened with a smite, it is a unofficial friendly nudge towards somebody who is seen as a generally good poster.

Please take it as a nudge in the right direction. Smiley

But Blas, you are still discussing mantras with me. That is not Laic. Laic does not mean not discussing the religions of your ancestors. Laic means not discussing religions. period.

The religion of your ancestry might be good or bad, mine might be good or bad. But *if you* are laic, then it is bad form for you to bring your religion forward. It is a very simple proposition. Either you are laic, or you are not laic.

I am not discussing mantras with you, you are doing all that by yourself ( aided by various Strawmen)

Merry Christmas Blas, and a happy new year. Your talk about cakes and venoms and vipers is water under the bridge no matter how much more you need to continue to bring those hurtful words out.

All I did was criticize the type of laic people who will discuss religions as long as they are foreign to their own. I was not talking about you at the time. By then you did not even mention to us that you were laic. In fact you still did not state whether you are a laic or not. All you have to state is that, you are not a laic, and then you will be free to discuss religions and highways and cars all you want. Just like the rest of us. We are not laic, we are secular for the most part. So we can still discuss religions in any context we like.

But for you, to claim to be a laic (and I am not saying you did), and then discuss the feng shui religion with us, that would be a bad form on your part.

Go back and read the posts os. specially the one before blas got all defensive. How was I supposed to know he was a laic? Worse, how was i supposed to know he will get all offended when i mentioned the 'type of laics who will go around pushing other people's mantras"? I did not direct my speech to ALL laic. Only to a certain type of laic.

How was I supposed to know that Blas would stand by and defend this type of laic who only apply their secularism to their own born-religion but not to others?

For the record, a normal laic would also get offended at those types of laic. Why does Blas insist on defending them, is still beyond me.

Laic :one of the laity, laical, secular
    Synonyms: amateur, layman, secular
Origin: Greek laikos, Latin laicus: of the people;  from la 'os: people
Other Synonyms: Civil, earthly, lay, materialistic, non clerical, non religious, of this world, profane,  temporal, worldly.

    Hello Blas,

Laic: You forgot to add the actual realistic application of Laicism, that disussing religions is bad form. What good is the dictionary definition that you are putting forward for the Second time already? (

Feng Shui: Unfortunately, you are trying to form the same argument that Awais attempted to form, that Feng Shui is just for arranging our surrounding. That is False. It is a religion. Here is the quote from wiki again, notice the part about the modern enthusiasts.
    Quote
Feng shui (traditional Chinese: 風水; simplified Chinese: 风水; pinyin: fēng shuǐ; pronounced /ˈfəŋˌʃueɪ/ fehng-shway in English) is an ancient Chinese system of aesthetics believed to utilize the Laws of both heaven (astronomy) and earth (geography) to help one improve life by receiving positive Qi. [1] The original designation for the discipline is Kan Yu (traditional Chinese: 堪輿; simplified Chinese: 堪舆; pinyin: kāny?; literally: Tao of heaven and earth)[2].

The words 'feng shui' literally translate as "wind-water"in English. This is a cultural shorthand taken from the following passage of the Zhangshu (Book of Burial) by Guo Pu of the Jin Dynasty:[3]

Qi rides the wind and scatters, but is retained when encountering water. [3]

Many modern enthusiasts claim that feng shui is the practice of arranging objects (such as furniture) to help people achieve their goals. More traditionally, feng shui is important in choosing a place to live and finding a burial site, along with agricultural planning.

Here is how people in the know about Feng Shui acted against it:
    Quote
Since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, feng shui has been officially deemed as a "feudalistic superstitious practice" and a "social evil" according to the state's atheistic Communist ideology and discouraged or even outright banned at times [67][68].

You mentioned you found some scientific untruths in the Quran.  I have scoured it and found only a few.  Just wondering which ones you foudn in the Quran?

    IsLame

Isn't one scientific untruth enough to put the lie to the Koran?

After all, their allah guy is supposed to be perfect.

Actually, you don't need to know science to put the lie to the KKKoran.  Verse 2:106 of the KKKoran is proof enough that said porn rag cannot be from God.  In that verse, allah reserves the right to abrogate, in which case he admits that his word is not eternal, and that he was too stupid to get things right the first time.

    ......

I laughed hard when I read this but you have to be a little more careful with those statements. The chekka (twice) & the above comment & stating dictionary definitions that are too abstracted from reality (twice). Such comments are considered logical fallacies. They have no place in a conversation. Some could call them firing blanks. Although I must admit, they are really funny blanks.

    Dear Baal,
Now that we have met, and know each other a little better, we should put a stop to this pointless bickering.

I have set aside a bottle of Brunello di Montalcino and tonight I will be sure to raise a glass (or two) to you, Osmanthus and all in the Forum.

I have set a Maria Christinia so I will be raising glasses to you, Os, and the forum, but later on to Brunello and Maria.

Here is my New Year wish for you all:
Happy New Year and may the best of your past be the worst of your future !

    Cheers,

"Ask the slave girl; she will tell you the truth.' So the Apostle called Burayra to ask her. Ali got up and gave her a violent beating first, saying, 'Tell the Apostle the truth.'"
