Yep, thats a good point.  Indo/pak culture was never that conservative, the mullahs chagned all that for the muslims.

Nothing wrong with western clothing, but can I ask why you don't like shalwar kameez? If it's sewn right and not scruffy looking, indo/pak girls look very very attractive and graceful in them.

Jeans and shirts are more practical for me. Plus I hate everything about my culture and shalwar kameez just reminds me of it so I'm biased against it. I cant wear many of the nicer designs that I like anyway cause bloody dad'll complain...

Yep, I agree, same with the Bengali culture.

Aside from the drinking problems in lower class/teenage Britain, "Western culture" to me extends to the meaning of "developed culture". Just look at Singapore, and even how India is changing. Islamic ideology can't handle progression like modern secular systems. There are more books in Spain than the Arab region combined (think I read that from "The World Is Flat"). KSA might have developed infrastructure, but it's mentality is still farr behind.

I started drinking at 2nd year of uni, then gave it up after placement year. I hardly drink anymore. It's not for me, does my head in!

I plan to marry an atheist, so it's pretty unlikely I'll marry someone from my origin ... that's going to be a right shocker to my extended family, an epic 10 pointer on the Richter scale.  Tongue

Many a time I have heard those who have come to this country complain that their kids have gone astray. Now this comment can be as trivial as "she wears skirts" or as large as (in their eyes) leaving their religion.

OK. What is it with the aunties and skirts?  I mean, it's a floor length skirt.  I had a friend who could not wear floor length skirts in her home because her father and mother in law would flip out and get very upset.  Even her own dad would as well.  Meanwhile in the Middle East, there is that special group of people who would go crazy if you wear trousers and they want you to wear abaya or skirt or dishdash.  Not so much anymore, but there are people like that.

Being from Pakistan who went to University in UK for around 4-5 years continuously, I have seen how foreign students are like. In all my years, I never went clubbing or even drank alcohol because I was the pseudo-perfect Muslim and all. I still dont do such activities given the shy bastard that I still am, though my city is a let down for fun seekers since I came back.

That said, the most wildest party animals in student union bars amongst foreign students from the Muslim World are often Pakistanis. You name it, they are all ahead in terms of party bazi. Drugs, Booze, Clubs, and the odd one night stand (that probably lasts a few minutes Cheesy ). Often these are students from Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad. They dont miss a single Jumaa congregation though.  Cheesy The Mirpuri Pakistanis are not far behind, esp. the young kids with their ridiculous gangsta styles and goofy haircuts (pfffft!!!). That can be said of boys. Girls? Well there is more than what meets the eye. Some are the humble type, some are the religious (hypocrite) type, few are the wild type/

Me ? I dont see the point of me needing to have booze to have a good time or to 'open up'. I prefer being myself. Smiley

Pakistan Zindabad? ya Pakistan sey Zinda bhaag?

Long Live Pakistan? Or run with your lives from Pakistan?
