    oh man this takes way back to when I was in Saudi, there are like one or two mosques on every block, so I heard MILLIONS of ear-aching adhans. But then again, I was in Saudi, and there were pretty good sounding adhans too!

    I'm sure they were nice sounding adhans but anything being amplified 5 times a day, however nice it sounds, will very quickly annoy the fuck out of you.

    Many people think the John Lennon - Imagine sounds nice, but if that was blaring out of the rooftops 5 times a day then it'll piss me right off!

        Narrated Anas:

        The Prophet said, "Listen and obey (your chief) even if an Ethiopian whose head is like a raisin were made your chief."

        Narrated Um Khalid:

        (the daughter of Khalid bin Said) I went to Allah's Apostle with my father and I was Nearing a yellow shirt. Allah's Apostle said, "Sanah, Sanah!" ('Abdullah, the narrator, said that 'Sanah' meant 'good' in the Ethiopian language). I then started playing with the seal of Prophethood (in between the Prophet's shoulders) and my father rebuked me harshly for that. Allah's Apostle said. "Leave her," and then Allah's Apostle (invoked Allah to grant me a long life) by saying (thrice), "Wear this dress till it is worn out and then wear it till it is worn out, and then wear it till it is worn out." (The narrator adds, "It is said that she lived for a long period, wearing that (yellow) dress till its color became dark because of long wear.")

    ROFL the seal was a mole, I had read about this before but still this cracks me up

    Uh dude, I don't he meant it that way. I don't know if you're an arab or not, but when he said "head like a raisin" it means someone who is stubborn, arrogant, or hard-headed. Second, he used Ethiopians to explain equality. Back then blacks were considered inferior beings. So he is saying people should judge their chief by their race or skin colour...which I think is a pretty thing to say.
    Even though we are ex-muslims, we should always remember that not everything in the quran or hadith is always bad. I do recall a hadith which says that one of Mohammed's physical features that made him so 'beautiful' was that his skin was white, as if white is the ideal skin colour...now THAT'S racism right there!

    Great points and agree. No its true, overall hadith means to respect people no matter their color. It's just the description. I thought that's how he would describe black africans. And not how you explained it.

    Why would soft raisins be used to describe somebody stubborn?  In Europe nuts with hard shells are used for this description?
