To answer OP's question:

from the various things I've read, Christianity is the fastest growing religion in terms of pure numbers.
This is due to large numbers of conversions.
In percentage terms however, Islam is growing faster - and is mostly growing due to births.

However in percentage terms the smaller the religion, the easier it is to have a high growth rate percentage. So for example if I start a religion now and convert someone my growth rate is infinite (1/0) .

So various smaller religions than Islam are growing many times faster than Islam - Bahaism, Mormonism, Scientology.

To say "Islam is the fastest growing" you have to also follow up by saying "not on the basis of numbers though - on the basis of percentage - and excluding any of the smaller religions".
