  • Hello to all!
     OP - November 22, 2009, 09:43 PM

Hi, everybody! I've never been a Muslim  - although some years ago I was really close to converting but never did. I do have many Muslim friends and have studied Islam for quite a while.

I was reading the forum and think that many of you are very smart and make very good points instead of just bashing Islam so I decided to join in the discussion if I may. I think I can learn a lot from you. I also noticed that many have respect for the religion and Muslims while still criticing Islam in an intelligent way.

I used to belong to a religion from the time I was 15 until I was about 22. When I left it the reaction of people was not what I was expecting as many were very rude and terrible to the point of cursing me - literally cursing. I would meet them randomly on the street and they would cross the road and things like that  wacko I thought that was so ridiculous. So I kinda know the feeling of leaving a group, but you all probably had a lot more trouble than I did.

Anyways, happy to be here  bunny

p.s.:  I do have spiritual beliefs. So I'm not agnostic or an atheist, but I see you are a very heterogeneous group which is very nice indeed.

Well, I wasn't going to say, but then I thought.. what the heck? I was in a pagan religion. They are all different, but it wasn't Wicca as many people around me thought. The coven was supposed to be all peace and love... as long you were there. Of course, there were some nice people and some supported me when I wanted out.

That's very hard to explain. I usually say I belong to a religion with one member. I can say I'm a theist and probably monotheist - which was a problem in my old religion. But I don't believe in the Abrahamic God.

Oh yeah. Welcome to the forum and stuff. Afro

I actually have platypuses living in the rivers around here. Bit hard to see them because they are very shy and have acute hearing, but you can spot them every so often.

Also there is something weird going on with your avatar. It flashes briefly for about a tenth of a second then disappears.

In the religion I was in they believed, basically, in a God and a Goddess and all the ways people from different cultures represent them. I basically thought was too "fairy talelish" to me. It was a too "humanized" idea of the divine and that ended up not meeting my true beliefs. One day I was just honest to myself in that I didn't believe in the duality of the divine. I kept like that for about 3 years without telling anyone. It came to a point I just couldn't anymore.
