     OP - December 16, 2009, 09:36 AM

I pretty much wrote an intro about me and how i lost islam so i figured I might as well link to it here:

    Nice intro.  Smiley

    Which country are you from?

I also found it interesting that you told no one, neither did your elder bro.

There are quite a few members out here who've quit Islam but told no one, is it because you want to avoid ugly confrontations with parents & family?

I am from Pakistan. My brother moved to Australia and lives there. I've been studying in Australia recently but I ran out of time on my visa and have returned to PK for a while and I'm saving up to move out again Smiley

I'm pretty sure my brother never told anyone because he wants to avoid confrontations. He also has a muslim wife which could be a factor. Personally I'm not afraid of those but since I'm currently in PK I think its better to stay quiet about this until I'm at a safer place for good. Till then I have to live with religious text messages and emails from my friends & cousins.. lol

    Welcome liberated.  Afro

Thankfully I no longer get junk texts or emails from friends and family, they know better than to waste their time.  parrot

Yeah, its best not to tell people until you move out. Hope things work out well for you & you settle down in Australia or some similarly nice place for good. Afro

I have a Bangladeshi ex Muslim friend who  immigrated to Australia. She told her parents that she doesn't believe anymore(one of her reasons for deconversion too was evolution) & after some initial trouble at home, her parents have accepted her choice. They were angrier that she has a boyfriend, but more because they believe having a boyfriend will hamper her studies & thats why she got poor grades, than for religious reasons. Wink

But they believe that she'll revert someday, its only a teen rebellion thing.  Roll Eyes

Welcome liberated, I hope you enjoy your stay.

I'm very thankful to my elder brother who basically woke me up and taught me about concepts like racism, secularism, etcwhich I had never heard of (I suspect he is also an agnostic/athiest though he hasn't told anyone, and neither have I).

Why have you not discussed/hinted at the subject of apostacy with your brother yet?  Arent you itching to talk to someone similarly minded..

Until last year I was in that state where I still called myself a muslim and believed in the core aspects of the religion, but I never prayed, did whatever i wanted to do, had a few girlfriends, etc (though i didn't drink or eat pork, and still haven't). Then last year I learnt more about evolution and I researched it, and found that it was proven that humans evolved rather than being sent in as adam & eve. Furthermore I found out about the many contradictions in quran, and in religions alltogether. All of this I found in perhaps a few weeks. And then I basically decided to abandon it for good, and that no god was going to smite me and send me to hell for it. And i've been feeling liberated since Smiley.

Not yet, just in case he isn't a Muslim and he tells my parents about this.

I meant in a subtle way - like ask him what he thinks of Islam?  Dont you have that kind of relationship?
