Actually I make it here except without the banana leaf and my husband says it is the best nasi lemak ever and he's not just being polite Wink
I buy the little dried fishies in Malaysia though; can't get nice ones here.

Ahh, I miss Teh Tarik and Roti Chanai. I was amazed to see religious artefacts and architecture everywhere; Hindu temples, Mosques, and Buddhist/Daoist shrines. Have you seen that Huge hindu statue outside of a hindu temple in KL?

Outside of KL has some breathtaking scenery, and I remember staying in a broken down house in a village eating breakfast before dawn, and hearing the haunting sound of a beautiful Quran recitation from a local mosque in the distance... I miss Malaysia

Yes visited all the temples and the sceneries, was very good trip, but I must admit I enjoyed the massages and the spa treatment the most Smiley

When I went to Malaysia I went to see Putrajaya, and visited the Putra mosque: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Masjid_Putra.jpg
Throughout my travels I have seen such extravagant mosques, made of marbles and granites, gold embroidery and such, but firstly, is this Islamic?? What a waste of money and resources… why do they spend so much money on a building that is not even required, when there are so many other worth causes !!

Majority of the enormous churches were built centuries/decades ago, but we are talking about extravagant mosques being built in the last 10 years... no one in the UK will attempt to build a second St.Paul or Canterbury cathedral..
In fact nowadays a lot of churches got converted to fashionable wine bars and executive type flats !!

Because religion is about institutionalising itself, and Islam is particularly imperialistic and concerned with asserting itself, because like Christianity, it is a prosletysing belief system, in which the ends of expansion justifies the means. All else is secondary to that.

Christianity has been blunted and castrated and forced to behave itself for the last couple of hundred years by secularism, liberalism, democracy and the aftermath of the enlightenment. However, broadly speaking, Islam has not encountered that yet, and so it is still in heat and hungry.

Good you put it in context now  Wink

I am not thinking about it too hard now, let things take its course, I know now that Islam is not the truth, and other religions are a fairy tale.   I decided not to bother with labels,  I perhaps will stay somewhat spiritual, but not in a hurry to force a label onto myself.   Life is too short, I spent too much time and effort following Islam, so I don't want to waste the rest of what I have left of my life exploring the why, how, when and what if etc etc  I just want to live free and happy, if there is a God or any other higher entity he/she will understand.

There are no atheists on a turbulent aircraft!
I got this quote one from a link posted on the other thread with idiotic statements from fundies
    https://www.facebook.com/HamzaAndreasTzortzis/posts/274458562564585

Anyway, got me thinking, I wonder how would we all behave in extreme situations, I know in times of stress and absent mindness, I end up looking up at the sky, or catching myself saying something to Alla (Yarab  grant this or the other)
But wonder how I'd behave in a turbulent aircraft or such situation?

I know my late hubby was dying, and until the last moment he was adamant there was no God, he went on and on about it in spite of his pain and knowing he is near death.  The extreme situation just made him even more atheist than normal!
Would people rethink their stance on existence of God in extreme situations?

Why should I? Why schould I rethink my stance? IMO God does not exist. I might die, so that would just be it. When I don't need a god in my life, why would I need one in my dying?

Watched the last episode of the Arabic series Fursah Thanya (Second Chance) on MBC.
I got a bit angry, the series is so promoting polygamy, all the men ended up happily married to several women lol, that wasn’t a comedy series, it was a drama, realistic drama.  But really pissed me off, trying to justify men having multiple wives is the right thing to do, for them dependent women. All the women were so happy and grateful to be under the shadow of their men !!
